I wouldn't trade him for picks unless Young shows that he is ready to play immediately (as a back up to Turner for the short term and a starter long term).

I would trade him right now as part of a package that brings us a five like Pekovic, Monroe, Mozgov, Favors or Kanter.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Green only gets traded if we struggle out of the gates and a great trade offer comes in. I don't expect to see him go unless it's a sweet deal for the C's.

Jeff is an average player being paid average salary. There's nothing wrong with that, and its actually beneficial for a tanking team like ours to have average players like him so we dont win too often.

Green is one of two starters on this team who could be starting on a championship caliber roster.

That is both the best reason to keep him and the reason why he's one of the players most likely to be traded.

jeff green is far from average-he is a superior athlete of which we have few that can do what he does-did you see his catch up block or drive down the middle the other night--certain teams he will kill

I don't necessarily see how Green and Rondo are the only two true starters on our team.  I think Bradley and Sullinger are both true starters and have just as much of a claim as Green. No, they're probably not All-Stars, though Sullinger is on the fringe in the future imo, but neither is Green. So what do you base your opinion off of that Green is a true starter and Bradley and Sullinger are not?

What an absurd comment.

Question:

If Danny Green was our starting two guard, would you put him in the category of "player who could be starting on a championship caliber roster"?

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

If Jeff Green can sustain his intensity and his movement on offense as we saw in his brief preseason, then we either have an important player for our future or an important trade chip.  However, this has been the issue all along for him. Inconsistent and passive.  I hope he has a monster start, but I'm not counting on it.

Which championship team do you see Green starting on? He would be the WORST starter in any championship caliber team. I like green, but to be a starter on such a team you are either an allstar level player - or bring some unique skill (lock down defender, 3 pt specialist, strong rebounder). Green is a high quality backup on a good NBA team.

Consider this - Andre Iquadala is coming of the Warriors bench.....

Only because they're trying to figure out how to have more ball handling from the bench, not what you're insinuating in the sense of "look how good the Warriors are [who haven't won anything yet] and have Iguodala coming from the bench".

Iggy is coming off the Warriors bench because of the ball handling thing, as well as the fact that there are people in the Warriors organization that (IMO mistakenly) believe that Harrison Barnes's lingering inconsistency will be smoothed out with more minutes.

There's no rush to replace Jeff Green. There shouldn't be any rush to replace Jeff Green. You can get away with Jeff Green as your starting small forward when you're making a team designed to make noise in the playoffs. That's not something you can say for the majority of the players on the Celtics roster, no matter how misguidedly committed you are into thinking that this season is going to be anything other than the 82 games of bad basketball that it is.

There's a lot of outlandish nonsense on this blog -- particularly when it comes to imaginary numbers from certain other C's, numbers that would put them in categories with elite big men -- but the idea that Green is a quality starter isn't one of them.

Finally a positive Jeff Green thread. I agree with this above. I have always been a huge Jeff Green supporter even though he gets bashed pretty hard around here. He is never going to be a number one scoring option. But he is a smart player who is a great two way wing. It's not too often you can find an athletic player of his caliber who can contain the other teams best wing player while still putting up 15 - 18 points a night.

He'll never be a superstar but he is a great piece to have for any team.

I think we should keep him if he can stay and put up numbers like he did against Washington last year, than i'll say yeah.

I've written this elsewhere, but barring an offer at the trade deadline for Marcus Thornton and the need to clear up the 15th roster spot, I dont think Danny should be actively seeking to move anyone else. Let Brad go to war with this roster and have set rotations and stability throughout the season. This will bode well for everything they want to do for the future, including giving proper time for player development in a stable situation and creating an environment that players want to come to, after we surprise some folks with our 35 win season!
