Nothing new here from what I can tell.

They are, essentially, stuck with him.  I supposed if it were me, I'd probably try to bring in inexpensive 3 an d guys, bigs who rebound and hustle, and hope to swing deals for journeymen and prospects while saving money, getting away from taxes, getting some young guys acclimated to the league and developing some value, and basically let Kobe think it's his show while struggling and missing the playoffs while Kobe's deal runs out.

Maybe he'll ask to leave.

I'm all for Kobe-bashing, but the Lakers signed him to that idiotic deal.

Never has the phrase "you reap what you sow" been more fitting.

Hope you enjoy these last few seasons, Kobe, playing for a bottom 5 team.  Suck it!

I do hate Kobe, but only because I hate the Lakers.  If he were elsewhere, I'd be indifferent.  The bottom line is that this short reprieve will last only until Kobe is done.  Then the Lakers -- whose brass knows that all they need to do is manage salaries until the next superstar arrives -- will be contenders again.

Boo-hoo to Mitch and Jim -- they have BY FAR the easiest owner/GM jobs in all of sports.

I haven't read this article yet, but I don't see how Kobe can kill the Lakers chances to be successful again. He's killing the next two years, but they are rebuilding anyway. I have no doubt they'll have every opportunity to be successful again when his contract is up.

If a source really phrased it that way, I think that's a hint at some shortsightedness within the organization.

Exactly.  No one forced them to offer that contract.

The Lakers have still made many, many millions more than they've ever paid Kobe from Kobe. No sympathy for their front office from me. This entire article makes me angry, actually.

The Lakers can go suck an egg as far as I'm concerned---they've had way too many GIFTS from other teams, since 1975....Screw em-!

Well duh....

Kobe didn't do squat to recruit ...any star talent to join him......why because he is OLD and injured and a donkey s tail.

He got a stupidly high contract for what he is actually worth today.

He has shackled the Lakers with his contract ...he help run off Dwight Howard ...was a creep to Gasol the whole time Gasol was a Laker.

Lakers have earned their situation....and deserve to sink with their ex hero

I agree with this. Not the part about hating Kobe just because he's a Laker. I'd hate him no matter what.

And they're going to take all the money he makes them on ticket sales, apparel, etc.

I'm surprised they are not looking to move him, and he's not asking out. I know he wants to be the all time greatest Laker, but asking out for the sake of the franchise would only help his legacy. He has to realize they aren't sniffing the finals again with him. There must be 4-5 contenders that would pay to take on his contract. I bet even the Cavs would work their butts off to open up cap space to trade for him.

If they move him early enough, they can have a top 5 pick in the ucpoming draft for their poor record, and Nash expires this summer. They would have Randle and a lottery pick and cap space, plus whatever they get back from a Kobe trade. A great start to rebuilding.

It's not so easy for them anymore with the new CBA structure and with the Clippers gaining a ton of popularity under Doc.
