Longest euphemism wins.
Here are a few examples:
"Boston builds a versatile roster with a lot of potential for the future."
"We are rebuilding now with our youth and expect to get a good draft choice"
"Phil Pressey deserves more playing time."
"We are not tanking. We' ll do our best to win every game with the available roster and develop talent."

Is this a case of giving the exact definition of a term but not calling it that, therefore making it different, which seems to be the method used by politicians today?  How mature (sarcasm).  That's a big reason why the financial crisis happened, btw.  Yeah, it's enough to make you want to put your head through a wall.  Ugh.

How about one of the oldest ones out there -

"Danny is continuing to assemble and develop talent in addition to acquiring assets for the future." ::)

" We are keeping our expectations in check with an emphasis on patience."

" I expect there to be some growing pains but I also think we can use our youth to our advantage"

More summary than paraphrase, but...

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. No one wants to take a pig to prom.

Boston is setting its sights beyond the 2014 season as they attempt to define a versatile roster with a serious emphasis on flexibility.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Dear Thucydides, yes, this is what it is, but better not go down the politics path.
Talent, assets and future are indeed buzzwords these days in Boston.

Found this gem somewhere in the forums
'Wins are nice but not a primary goal'
I like how this euphemism accepts the inevitability of some wins even within an organization that has done its best to promote flexibility, the acquisition of future assets and talent development.

The Celtics are a plus 6 with Pressey on the floor.
Pressey makes the team better.

I have a really hard time defining "tanking" in my own mind.  Were the Red Sox tanking when they traded Lester and everyone else?  Were the Timberwolves tanking when they traded Love?  How about the 76ers when they traded Turner and everyone else?

I suspect that most would answer with at least one yes and maybe three.  In terms of the Celtics, my definition of tanking would be losing or weakening your team on purpose with the primary goal of improving your draft position.  By this definition, doing a trade of a veteran for young players (Love trade) would not necessarily be tanking, depending on your perspective.

I don't feel like the Celtics or Timberwolves are tanking but I do think the 76ers have been (I don't think they can tank anymore at this point, they don't have too, they are already bad enough).

So my euphemism, We are rebuilding, not 76'ing.
