#1 - Chicago - I think they have got a top 10 bench (bottom end of top 10). Hinrich, Snell, McDermott, Taj Gibson and Nazr Mohammed. Very good balance one through five (PG, SG, SF, PF, C). A 6th man of year candidate in Taj Gibson. Above average backup combo guard in Kirk Hinrich. A middle of pack backup SG/SF in Tony Snell. Nazr and McDermott should be adequate bench players. (Edit: Forgot about Mirotic - further solidifies Chicago as best bench amongst this group)

#2 - Cleveland - I think they have a slightly above average bench. Terrific depth (best in league) on the wings with Dion Waiters, Shawn Marion, Mike Miller and James Jones. A good backup PF in Tristan Thompson. Very weak backup PG (AJ Price = amongst worst in league) and very weak backup center (Brendan Haywood = amongst worst in league). Lack of quality at PG and C holds them back from having a top bench. But 2 through 4 (SG, SF, PF) is excellent. Best in league.

#3 - Washington - Middle of the pack to slightly below average bench. Andre Miller (PG), Martell Webster (SG), Otto Porter (SF), Kris Humphries (PF) and DeJuan Blair (C). Kris Humphries is best bench player. Strong backup PF. Andre Miller has been in decline for several years now and I think he is middle of pack backup PG at this juncture in career. Porter was a nothing player last year. Needs to prove himself. Martell Webster is a good backup SF/SG but he has injury concerns. DeJuan Blair is not a center. A third string PF. Seraphin as 5th big is nice.

I think the Celtics have a better bench than all of these teams.

Celtics and Raptors are my picks as the top two benches in the Eastern Conference.

Boston = Marcus Smart, Evan Turner, Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, Vic Faverani, Marcus Thornton, Joel Anthony, James Young, Phil Pressey.
Toronto = Lou Williams, Greivis Vasquez, James Johnson, Patrick Patterson, Greg Stiemsma, Landry Fields, Tyler Hansbrough, Chuck Hayes, Jordan Hamilton, Bruno Caboclo.

You forgot Tyler Zeller, let's see if he starts fitting in, particularly when Rondo is around feeding passes. But he hasn't looked the part yet early on.

One team which might have a sneaky good bench next year is Detroit, also curious about how the Hornets are going to shape up.

as much as i want pierce to win a ring than kg
i think the wizards made the wrong choice by getting blair and signing gooden?
+ im sure seraphin might get traded...
they can also just signed a 7'1 or 7'2 big to just stand up there and protect the rim? instead of others
also temple is not good offensively and porter needs more to help preserve pierce health while webster is out
there 2 wins seems lucky to me,

I have to agree...I think Boston's bench is FAR better than any of those three.

Smart, Thornton, Turner, Bass, Zeller is a very nice second unit.  In fact it's most likely significantly better then the 76ers starting 5 lol

Could you elaborate in how Boston's bench is better than Chicago's?

We have fringe starters (Turner, Thornton, Smart), Chicago has bench players (except for Gibson, who's an above average starter).

Boston = Marcus Smart, Evan Turner, Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, (edit: Tyler Zeller), Marcus Thornton, Vic Faverani, Joel Anthony, James Young, Phil Pressey.

The main difference I see is in the quality of the backup wings.

Boston's backup wings (G.Wallace, E.Turner, M.Thornton) are established NBA players. Gerald Wallace is a proven defender/rebounder at SF/PF. Evan Turner is a multi-dimensional role player (rebounding, passing, ball-handling, defense) who has problems scoring the ball (often ineffective scorer due to inefficiency). Thornton a proven scorer.

Chicago has two young wings. Tony Snell and McDermott. McDermott is a rookie with a fair few question marks about him = how well he can create own offense at NBA level or whether he'll be a guy who plays off of others like a Kyle Korver + most importantly, how well he can defend his position at NBA level. Tony Snell is a 2nd year player who only played a minor role (15mpg = 4.5ppg, 1.5rpg, 1apg) last season. Snell looks a good 3+D player but he still only shot 38% FG% and 32% from three last year (49% TS%) so he has a fair bit to prove as well.

I think Chicago is actually 3rd in East on my bench rankings but a clear tier below Boston and Toronto. The rest of my top 10 benches are all Western Conference teams (Memphis, LA Clippers, Warriors, OKC, San Antonio, Phoenix).

The Wizards have an ok bench
Cleveland and Chicago have a very good bench

I would even argue Cleveland having a better bench than Miami-LeBron-led-Big3. Everyone knows that Cleveland will have problems defending as LeBron being their best defender. Shortly after, they signed Shawn Marion. I think their roster will still improve as time goes on this season and I can definitely see them add more defensive players than good offensive players as they already have lots of weapons on offense

Chicago again, have a great bench of Brooks, Gibson, Hinrich and Butler but their entire team rests on the hope of a healthy 100% Derrick Rose

I don't think we have a great bench

Smart is still unproven, Bass is good...Wallace is good, but how much does he have left in the tank after last year? The rest are not exactly good players in my honest opinion
