It is early and the rest of the preseason will shed more light as to whether or not this is a good idea. I think think the Cs need to explore a Sullinger for Kanter trade. The idea definitely has its flaws. The Cs would be giving up the more productive player who they have a cheap team option for this off-season. Where as Kanter is RFA after this season.
you've just given the exact reason why not to do this.
A week ago I would have balked at this trade as I have been a huge Sully fan. However his weight really bothers me. I defended BBD for his weight and up an till now I have defended Sullys. To me the fact that with a healthy off-season he looks heavier then last season is inexcusable.
sorry, not seeing this. Sully looks fine
Aside from the upcoming contract Kanter is far from a perfect prospect.
how so? you go on to point out why he's NOT the perfect prospect.
He doesn't bring the team a true rim protector and is still developing as a defender.
he's not a rim protector which is what we need. if we're trading a young, cost-controlled PF, we better be getting that type of player back without having to cross our fingers and HOPE he develops into one. Particularly when that 'prospect' has been in the league longer and had more time to develop
He is a center and would plug right in as the starter while still only 22.
Zeller's young too. what's your point? that he's a center that hasn't proven anything yet either? that doesn't make him a starter.
Zeller is also to early to judge but didn't wow me in the first game. Injecting a young true center would move KO to starting PF and open up minutes more minutes to the very deserving Bass.
Zeller didn't wow anyone but Kanter hasn't wowed anyone either. exchanging one underperformer for another and the one you want to use has been in the league longer to try and show something. not seeing the point especially when Kanter will need to be paid more after this year.
No desire to make this trade. I have no desire to trade a better prospect for an inferior one just because the inferior one plays a position we're thin at. We'd still be lacking talent at center after this deal, we'd just have another body to play the position.
if you were swapping Bass for Kanter, I'd try that not that Utah wants a role-playing vet.
