On offense? Pretty good. At least middle of the pack (amongst starting centers) if not a smidge above average. Zeller's speed in transition (top tier) and in the halfcourt will make him a great target for Rondo's passes and if Zeller can get his jump-shot falling (top third), he'll be a really good offensive role player.

In terms of defense + rebounding? This is the area that is most important for Zeller's long term ambitions in the NBA and there is only so much a guard like Rondo can do to help Zeller in these areas. If Zeller wants to be more than a backup center in this league, this is where it is going to happen (or not).

I would love to see Zeller (and guys like Vucevic) work on their passing. Skilled jump-shooters but ineffective passers. It is a limitation on their high post offense. It would help take their offensive games to a whole other level.

Team offense very important at center position. Team defense, rebounding and team offense. Three most important things (key areas) for a center. Then individual offense and individual defense. Both Vucevic and Zeller could be top threats in terms of team offense if they became above average passing centers.

Passing one of the easiest things to improve on. Not to be great at it but to become good. Easily achievable. I really hate how little NBA coaches work on their bigs (especially centers) to improve their passing skills.

I think good shooters make Rondo look better too, it helps to be passing to Ray Allen, PP and KG.

Good shooters would make any PG look better.

Rajon Rondo will make Tyler Zeller look VERY good.

Rondo's a pure PG - perhaps a dying breed. He was affectionately nicknamed "Dodo" by the great Shaquille O'Neal during Shaq's run in BOS.

Rondo's rare, indeed.

Rondo made Perk look good, and Perk isn't known for his offense.

Looking forward to this season.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
You're right, Zeller does move well.
Rondo will probably make him a 16 point, 10 rebound player per 36 minutes. (he's not too far off that now).

I'm assuming they'll try and pump up his value to the max. He's come at the perfect time after 2 seasons and a bit of time already starting for the Cavs.

Hopefully he becomes a valuable trade asset to send out for an All Star one day, in the mean time it should be real fun watching him play with a passing guard like Rondo.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
