Yes, I'd do this in 5 seconds for the Clippers pick+Young.
Would Ainge? 100% because that size and length and co-ordination is pretty special.
I doubt the Jazz do it though. Would you give up a young, cost controlled monster with all that potential?... considering Enes Kanter hasn't panned out too well.
James Young projects as a poor mans Marvin Williams/Jeff Green with better 3 point shooting. He's going to be a James Posey type player if we are lucky and he learns how to defend.
Lots of C's fans seem to think he'll be like Nic Batum or something. I seriously doubt it.
I don't see how Young could be projected for anything right now. I believe he's the second youngest pick of the draft, will have just turned 19 this summer. One year in college, where he did play pretty well, some people say he was the best player for Kentucky in the Tourney. A lot of people say if he didn't get into the car accident during work outs he may have gone around the 10th pick. While size is nice, having aggressive shooting wings. Gobert looks good, but like Young he has a way to go before we know if the kid can actually play or not. We'll see once he gets the attention of the other bigs in the game and they decide to give him some respect and play legit D on him.
There has been a lot of guys who looked bad, but ended up being good and other that have looked good but ended up being bad. They are both young and it's still WAY up in the air.
Plus next draft has some good BIG talent, why not keep a wing and a pick and swing for one of those instead.
You're right that Young's age makes him somewhat of an unknown. His shooting is very good for his age and he should be able to drain it at NBA three point range.
I think having a James Posey type player would be an excellent pick at 18 with Young, but I also don't want people to start having hopes that he's going to be a Jeff Green replacement. His skillset is really limited and his defense is non existent.
Great size and length and great 3 point shot but without that 3 point shot he really doesn't stand out anywhere. Athletically he's average and at the moment I don't think it's fair to be expecting more out of James Young than someone like Pietrus or James Posey- and those two guys can shoot threes AND play defense.
Gobert with his size/length and play at the recent world championships would be an easy trade for Young+a late first rounder for me.
I'd also like to see Young play but if Utah called today and offered that deal I'd have Young in a Jazz uniform before I could hang up the phone.
I think that would be an easy decision for Ainge.
Just my opinion and everyone's got one
