Are you smarter than Danny Ainge? 2014 NBA Draft Edition

So recently in a thread there was a bit of a kerfuffle over prognostications. So I'm here to help future CBlogers be able to set the record straight, and etch their names in CelticsBlog history with: Are you Smarter Than Danny Ainge: Draft Edition

The rules: Between now and the first preseason game, put your picks down for 'who Danny should've drafted'. You get one player for player 6 (must have been chosen 6 or later, Marcus Smart is a viable option), one player for pick 17 (must be chosen pick 17 or later, James Young is a viable option), and one undrafted player Danny could've pursued after the draft (undrafted should speak for its self).

Here is an example:

6: Julius Randle 17: Tyler Ennis Undrafted: Khem Birch

You can pick Danny's picks and be at least as smart aaas Danny Ainge, be bold, whatever.

No 'I would've traded back from 6 to 10th and up from 17th to 13th and gotten a 2nd rounder nonsense either. One 6 or later, one 17th or later, and if you want, 1 undrafted player.

Every one gets one guess, can't change it. I'll put them in the next post.

I love our picks, but I'm fascinated with Caboclo's potential. I could probably make a decision on Young or Caboclo if the former had played summer league. Still, I'll go with Young because he's more ready to contribute and their age differential (only 1 month apart) isn't a factor.

The reason why I like Caboclo is because he's a brand new toy nobody has got to play with yet. Truthfully it's a bit of a cheaters pick because I think Masai Ujiri is the news genius of the NBA (actually not that new), and I think the Raptors are going to do more with Caboclo's development than just about any other team will with a similar draft pick. They get to build him from the ground up, and since he's got zero expectations from any rational fan, Toronto will get to do it right. They'll send someone with him full time in the D-League and give him the right habits without having to learn while on the NBA grind. His fish out of water aspect helps here too, he'll be isolated. And everyone knows true genius requires isolation to marinate.

I don't think P. Young has the highest ceiling around, but I think he has the potential to be a solid rotation big for the next decade. Kind of what we hoped Iverson would be.

I had similar thoughts about Moreland. Young holds real draw though too. Plus, in terms of intimidation I'm not sure there is a scarier guy besides Reggie Evans or maybe Ivan Johnson.

Rodney Hood is a real trickey pick. If he would've ended up anywhere but Utah (including here) I would be more excited. Of all the 3's outside of Jabari Parker, I think he was the most ready for both sides of the ball in the NBA. His basement is rotation player long-term. His ceiling is..my gut says 'Decent starter'. Kind of a 'you got what you got' kinda guy.
