Knicks Get: Thorton, Bass, Anthony, Bogans

Celtics Get: Amare

Knicks do it for more immediate veteran depth, Instant LT savings as they can cut Bogans, maintain cap flexibility next offseason as all of the incoming players would be expiring.

Celtics do it to compress their roster and free up playing time for the young guys. They also maintain their flexibility as Amare is also expiring.

I think a deal like this would make a lot of sense for both teams, though the Celtics would have some luxery tax concerns they would need to address before next deadline.

The only color that matters is GREEN

Not enough incentive for Boston. Why help the Knicks get out of the financial straightjacket of Amare's contract?

Right. We need an asset or why bother.

I do it if we are trying to get some wins this season and not tank. Isn't a 23 million dollar expiring enough of an asset in return?

Rondo/Smart
Bradley/Turner
Green/Wallace
Sully/KO
Amare/Zeller

That should easily be a bottom half of the playoffs team in the weak east. Obviously not where we want to be but I think it gives us some good options and cuts down our roster spots.

Not if that 23 million puts us over the luxury tax threshold.  If it did, then it wouldn't be a smart deal on our part.

Yeah we'd need to be dumping contracts that weren't just expiring.

Also the Knicks would have to cut an awful lot of players.

I get the thought process behind it but it's kind of a lateral move.

Sure Amar'e is expiring but then so aren't all the guys we are dealing in this trade.

It does clear our logjam at least.

Too bad NYY probably wouldn't be willing to take on either Wallace or Green (assuming Green might pick up his player option for next season.)

agree on the first couple of points.  if the deal was reworked to give them Wallace, that would at least be a positive.  just having Amare come off the books when the contracts we're moving are already coming off the books does nothing for us -- particularly when they're less $ combined than Amare.

what someone else mentioned about having Amare's deal coming off the books next year being an asset means nothing.  whether it's Amare's larger deal expiring or our smaller bunch of contracts expiring, it still leaves the same amount of players on the roster making the same amount of money going into next year.

Knicks would have to either take Wallace, give us Hardaway or a future 1st and second to take Amare off their hands.  taking that huge contract off their hands really helps them since it'd be so much easier for them to trade those smaller expiring deals for someone productive at the deadline.  so many more mix-and-match financial options that Amare's single huge deal

Wallace, Thornton, and Bass for Amare works on realgm tradechecker and it saves us 2.4 million this year and $10.11 million next year:-))

I do that trade, even if I like Gerald more than Amar'e.

The Knicks haven't suffered with Amare's contract these past few seasons just to trade it RIGHT as it's expiring in exchange for another albatross contract.

BUT, they get TWO expiring contracts in Bass and Thornton, whom they might want to re-sign for a little less after this year.  Yes, they get Wallace for one more year, but this helps them THIS year.  Remember, they signed Dalembart and Jason Smith, so they really don't need to add a center in the trade.  Even if we have to include Philly's likely 2 second rounders, I am fine with that!!!
