I was thinking about Rondo trades in general and wanted to look back and see what other star players had fetched for their teams.

Obviously every circumstance is unique. A few things counting against Rondo. I think none of the players below had as bad an injury as Rondo just had. He's playing at a time of unprecedented young and talented depth at his position. He's a free agent in 1 year reportedly looking for the max.

I'm also not sure what is value around the league is. Not many teams need PGs (I think it's a trickle down from the rule changes a few years ago favoring quick guards and making them very abundant. Maybe as many as half the teams in the nba wouldn't trade their PG straight up for Rondo.

But a few things from below. Unless you get wowed, maybe not much benefit to trading him. Looking below, how many of those teams are in definitely a better spot now than when they traded their star? Not many. Second, not many draft picks really pan out or end up being all that high in the draft.

I'm afraid Rondo's closest comps right now might be antoine walker when he left the celtics and ray allen when he joined the celtics.

I think the Ray Allen to Boston trade package is most indicative of where I believe Rondo's trade value is currently at.

I would take that for rondo any day.

A top 5 1st round pick, a 2nd rounder, a proven off the bench scorer who only knows how to score, and decent bench point gaurd.

Honestly if we get any of those trades back for rondo we are in a good position.

We have a proven NBA power forward, there's no one on this site that can say Sully isn't a legit NBA player. He gets the bad side of some of is because we want him to be a star.

We have one f the best defensive SG's in the league.

Jeff green can be a great player on a contender if he isn't the main focus, but I don't think he's in our future unless he shows he can be a star this year ( I have faith).

We have a young point gaurd in the waiting.

We need a young player who can become great and a proven NBA center. Or else I don't want to trade rondo and would rather let him ,trade Gerald Wallace and we can offer Marc Gasol a max deal.

A lineup of

Smart
Bradley
Green
Sully
Gasol

With a boatload of draft picks is a bright future.

Gasol isn't going to come over to a team like the Celtics... Its the same reason why Rondo 'may,' want out. Gasol wants to contend too... His prime is coming to an end, so the only reason why Gasol would join us if he believes we have a good chance of contending. I honestly think if Ainge wanted Gasol, that he would've gone after his brother Pau, and Marc would contemplate the possibility of actually playing with his brother.

A line up of
Rondo/Smart
Bradley/Smart
Green
Pau Gasol
Marc Gasol

Is a pretty decent team defensively, and Bradley/Green are great spot up shooters, who are complimented by smart passers in Pau/Marc/Rondo.

If Rondo's worth is around Antione, then why trade him at all?

agreed. but if the celtics get back packages equivalent to these the other GM deserves to be fired. maybe ainge can swing a miracle here, but i just dont see the celtics getting this sort of return for him. hopefully i am wrong once more.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
