Many believe that Ed Davis judged needs to find the right situation in order to live up to his potential. He seemed to really endear himself toward the fan base during his time in Toronto. Davis could easily massively out produce his modest contract.

Tyler Zeller was on the team that was commonly refrred to as the most dysfunctional in the league and still may have plenty to show the league himself. Zeller could end up being a natural fit for Brad Stevens system.

Both are former standout UNC players, both end up on opposite sides of a storied rivalry. Who will have a greater impact for their team now and in the short term?

really liked Davis when he came into the league.  thought he'd be a very good PF but he's never reached the 'good' level.  still plays like a prospect after several years in the league.  not sure he's going to reach a higher level of play at this point.  maybe a different coach can get more out of him but will have to see it to believe it.

Just the fact that Zeller is more of a C than a PF, and Davis is more of a PF than a C, makes Zeller more valuable.

Zeller will hopefully get more playing time as well.

I think Zeller has a real chance to start for Boston, while I'd be surprised to see Davis start over Randle.

That alone should make Zeller more impactful.

I'm quite optimistic about Tyler this season. I think his game meshes very well with what Brad wants from a center.

Zeller

Lakers got too many similar type players at PF/C with Jordan Hill, Ed Davis and Julius Randle. Carlos Boozer is the only skilled big man on the roster. As such, Boozer should receive major minutes because he is the only player who provides offensive integrity to team. Hill will be the starting center as he is the only one of the other three (unskilled bigs) with enough size to play long minutes at that position.

That leaves the other two bench players - Ed Davis and Julius Randle - those two will have difficulty finding effective combinations / lineups because of their combined lack of skill-level offensively (and also J.Hill's). So minutes and consistency of playing time, role, placement in position where they can succeed = all problematic. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ryan Kelly beat out those two other bench bigs for playing time because LAL will need Kelly's jump-shooting and passing to keep defenses honest.

LAL is just another bad situation for Ed Davis to be in. He needs a skilled center alongside him to get long minutes (more than 15-20mpg) due to his limited offensive game.

So Tyler Zeller should win this comfortably. His extra size allows him to play center unlike Ed Davis and that will allow him to get on the floor for more minutes and be of more use to Boston than I expect Ed Davis to be in LAL. Good chance at starting job. Should be a regular and productive (versus problematic = Ed Davis) bench player even Tyler Zeller fails to win starting job.

Ed Davis is definetly more log jammed but has a chance to carve out a nice spot in the rotation that would most likely best case scenario lead to him receiving a larger contract on another team. People have mentioned Julius Randle but Davis might be the player on the roster best suited to cover up his deficiencies. He's long, athletic, has a developing jump shot. If he can find his confidence, he could definetly have the chance to outplay his modest contact.

That being said ya'd have to imagine Zeller will have the greater impact long term and this year for all the reasons mentioned above. Tack on him possibly funding a niche on Rondo's fast break and Zeller might have just found a home in Boston.

Zeller will have a much bigger impact on the Cs then Davis will the Lakers.
