The competition formerly known as the World Championship begins on August 30 with the final on September 14.

GROUP A
Spain
Iran
France
Brazil
Egypt
Serbia

GROUP B
Philippines
Senegal
Puerto Rico
Argentina
Greece
Croatia

GROUP C
Dominican Republic
Turkey
United States
Finland
New Zealand
Ukraine

GROUP D
Lithuania
Angola
South Korea
Slovenia
Mexico
Australia

It's a real shame the horrible Paul George injury puts a bit of a dampener on the tournament but hopefully it's still an enjoyable series with no more bad injuries.

As always I'll be hoping Australia can claim our first ever medal but with Andrew Bogut and Patrick Mills injured it's a long shot. I'm disappointed Ben Simmons (LSU committed) didn't make the final cut but pleasantly surprised to see Nathan Jawai is healthy again. Possible depth chart:

Matthew Dellavedova
Brad Newley
Joe Ingles
Aron Baynes
David Andersen

Dante Exum
Chris Goulding
Brock Motum
Cameron Bairstow
Nathan Jawai

Ryan Broekhoff
Adam Gibson

Even without PG USA is the favourite to win it followed by Spain. I m not sold on France even though they are European Champions.I can t see any other team challenging a place in the final

I d like to believe that Greece could create some noise but i can t see that happening. Without Spanoulis there isn t a go to scorer  in the roster. There are a lot of quality role players like Bourousis,Papanikolaou,Kaimakoglou,Zisis but no leader and no consistent scorers

France like a few countries are unfortunately missing their best NBA players, namely Tony Paker, Joakim Noah and Nando De Colo. They still have Boris Diaw, Nicolas Batum, Ian Mahinmi, Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert though. Australia beat them by 2 points in an exhibition match a few days ago.

Hard to see anyone other than USA and Spain playing for gold and silver but the bronze is up for grabs IMO.

I've gotten the boxscores for the Boomers exhibition games from their official site where they provide a link to the boxscore at www.fibalivestats.com

This is from the France game last week:

Philippines, the ultimate underdog of this competition.

What we lack in size, we make up in heart. And we have Andray Blatche!

The Philippine Senate actually wrote a bill to naturalize Blatche. At the time I thought this takes away Filipino pride, something they have been preaching. I thought it gives an idea that we (Phil. National Team) are already counting ourselves out by trying to naturalize others just to play for us rather than going all Filipino and just go head on.

I didnt get it, still dont. But no matter how hard I try not to root for them, just cant do it.

The Phillipines roster has more diversity than a college promotional flier.

The current roster is mostly home grown Filipinos, 3 of them are Fil-Am's that either played Division II or some Division I, and then @DrayBaltche

Gabe Norwood played good minutes on '06 George Mason team that had a memorable NCAA Tournament run. Japeth Aguilar played 3 years for Western Kentucky. Jimmy Alapag played for Cal San Bernardino.

They are actually more Filipino heavy than the usual, which I liked, until Blatche came in (which I have no problem with Blatche, but more with the coaching staff).

Funny thing. Nate Robinson is actually 1/8 Filipino. I dont know if that will be enough to be able to represent, but man, we can use him. Jordan Clarkson is also half-Filipino. We could use him (definitely him) as well, especially at the SF spot. We have no SF outside of Norwood, and our next 3 man is a 6'6" natural Center playing way out of position.

But it dont matter. WE GONNA SHOCK THE WORLD.
