DISCLOSURE: This trade idea is if the team is already intent on a full youth movement  :)

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nn9xhjf

Boston sends: Jeff Green
Boston gets: Otto Porter
-pros: a young SF on a rookie deal who could fit well next to our other young players, salary saving move
-cons: Perhaps not the maximum return for Green some might hope for, but Porter is no slouch

Washington sends: Otto Porter, Martell Webster
Washington gets: Green
-pros: Green instantly becomes their best SF and goes well with the Wizards backcourt, moves Pierce definitively to the bench where he belongs, and Jeff Green would be the fifth offensive option in this starting lineup, Green's contract expires the same summer as Durant's (should he take his player option)
-cons: losing Porter, who they may view as a long term SF

Phoenix sends:
Phoenix gets: Martell Webster
-pros: Webster would be Phoenix's best SF, but he's currently injured
-cons: Webster may not be the way they want to use their cap space, and I could see Phoenix wanting a 2nd rounder for this trade. If that were so, would that be a deal breaker for you?

Any opinions on this trade? Is it a move you could see Danny Ainge making or am I way off in judging the league's talents?

I would do it. Porter looked much improved over the summer and him still being locked up under his rookie contract makes this a low risk/high reward type of deal.

I also think the Wiz would be interested in this as well. They're in a "win now" mode despite having youngsters Wall and Beal. Adding Green would also place Pierce in a 6th man role that he looks well suited for at this stage of his career.

Not sure Phoenix wants to take on Webster for 3 more years under that salary, so I think the better trade would be to exclude them and just deal with the Wizards. Something like:

Green

for

Porter
Seraphin (expiring contract)

Wizards have the depth at the 4/5 (Gortat, Nene, Humphries, Blair) and we could give Seraphin a look as a backup C.

I think Washington should do this in a heartbeat. And I would not include a pick...more like the other way around.

porter for green would be a fair trade. porter was a high pick, but in a poor draft class. his 6.08 PER last year isn't exactly great. he does seem to have upside, though. would the celtics rather have a project like porter or a late-first rounder from another contender?
jeff green is a big upgrade for washington, as is probably about as good a haul as washington could get for porter. i also think green would thrive playing on that team, add his talent to the mix and you have a true contender, washington would have five above-average starters, a couple of which are potential superstars. they also have some savvy vets in pierce, blair, hump, and gooden.

not a bad idea but agree with the comment to cut out Phx if at all possible.  don't want Webster either.

Porter, 1st, Seraphin (as someone else suggested) for Green.

Porter hasn't shown anything yet in the NBA while Green has (despite all the negativity surrounding him here).  Seraphin hasn't shown anything either but is there as an expiring deal and take a flyer on the kid.  the 1st is needed from Wash to balance out the talent difference.

the primary issue I see with it is that we're creating more of a logjam in the roster with 2 coming in and only 1 going out.

Good idea, but IMO Geen's stock will skyrocket this year, and then we should trade him, except he has a 24-5-3 type of a year, in that case keep him and sign him long therm.

LOL.

That Miami finish is getting up there with the Dave Roberts steal is one of the most overrated, overstated plays in Boston.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't Otto Porter's upside similar to where Jeff Green is right now? Seems to be a fair trade overall, but it could simply reboot the timeline and give the Celtic's a Jeff-like player 7 years behind in the development stage.

That said, Otto could pan out worse or better than Jeff so there is some gamble there.

Speaking of Phoenix, and the last name Green, what does the future hold for old friend Gerald? He is on the upswing and will be an UFA next summer. His length, 3 point shooting and more mature game could be a fit for a lot of teams, including the C's.
