No, because that is quite literally the definition of a rash panic trade.

I don't think they would, but it's going to be really interesting to see what they do do. They won't trade Paul George, but the rumors have them shopping Hibbert.

If I were the Pacers and I really did want to move Hibbert, I would be trying to pull a half-firesale where the player coming back can be respectable now and might be great later on. Something like

Hibbert to OKC for Steven Adams and Kendrick Perkins,
Hibbert to Brooklyn for Plumlee and Garnett, or maybe even
Hibbert and a first to Denver for Mcgee and Faried

That's not taking into account what the Pacers want to get out of next season, though.

If they're looking for money, I would wager their long-term profile with a marketable player like George easily outweighs the profit they'd make from a playoff run next season (that likely wouldn't even last long).

There's really no good way to justify trading George.  They wouldn't get a good return and it's just ridiculously short-sighted.

It depends on how the Pacers feel about George's chances at a full recovery, though, and we're not likely to be privy to that conversation. I doubt the Pistons shed many tears over losing Grant Hill, for example.

Eh, I just don't see this as a career-ending or altering injury.  By all accounts, it was a clean break with no damage (at least of any significance) to his nerves and muscles.  He was also spared any damage to avascular areas, like ligaments.  It was as gruesome to see as the Livingston injury without having even nearly as terrible a prognosis (remember, amputation was initially discussed as a possibility for Livingston).

I think they're willing to wait.  They just invested $90+ million in the guy and he's their franchise player (for now).  Using the Granger injury as precedent, they're not big on making such major trades without seeing how the player returns to form.  Their best shot at winning a title - or even an extended playoff run - undoubtedly involves a healthy George, so I simply can't see them even giving the idea of trading him right now any consideration.

I absolutely agree that you can't see the Pacers giving any consideration to trading him.  ;)

Until we hear otherwise, it's probably best to assume that they believe it is possible he will have a 100% recovery and want to position the team to be in the best possible position for when he comes back.

Larry Bird is one cool customer and has ice in his veins.   He would not panic like the OP and do a trade just for the sake of doing a trade.
