i know i know.. crazy right? talent-wise and coaching-wise, there really is no comparison: the Spurs are the well-oiled international machine..
But looking 9 players deep into both teams, and the player-types are so familiar..
I think this is the type of offense that Brad wants to run, they probably just dont have the talent and cohesiveness to execute nearly as well.

Starting lineups:
penetrating pg (parker and rondo)
3 and D sg (bradley and d. green)
athletic and long sf (j. green and leonard)
pick'n'roll guys at pf and c (zeller/sullinger/olynyk and duncan/splitter)

bench:
playmaking and unathletic SF (boris and evan)
3pt specialist guard (thornton and patty mills)
playmaking and penetrating guard (smart and ginobilli)
3pt specialist forward (young and belinelli)

Even at the end of the game, we lined up in different formation that he hadn't seen and he called out our play before I got the ball. I heard him calling it out. -John Wall on Brad Stevens

You know how burgers and veggie burgers taste absolutely nothing alike?
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

You lost me at Ginobili & you're forgetting 1 HUGE fact, we don't have Greg Popovich!

The Celtics are less talented and experienced at all positions. Although i would take Bradley over Danny Green. The Celtics also lack a hall of fame center, as well as another center who is maybe top 20 at his position.

I am sure Stevens would love to have a flowing offense like the Spurs, and i am sure he is taking notes from watching and chatting with Pop.

Edit: Ginobili off the bench is an excellent 6th man weapon. Turner and Thorton aren't anywhere near his level.

I appreciate the sentiment but I don't think it's a fit.

One of the greatest coaches of all time (Pop) VS an unproven Brad Stevens

One of the greatest Bigs in NBA history (Duncan) VS one of the fattest bigs in the league (Sully)

One of the most underrated wing and a Finals MVP (Kawaii) VS one of the most inconsistent and lackadaisical wings in the league (Green)

A future HOF Point Guard, well versed offensively who is also underrated overall (Parker) VS a ball dominate, pass first PG who butts heads with coaches and is coming off ACL rehabilitation (Rondo)

Future HOF guard, great shooter/scorer who will go down as one of the best 6th men of all time VS who again?

list goes on and on.  I'm sorry but the KG/Pierce/Allen/Rondo/Doc Celtics were Spurs light if they did a better job of surrounding the core with capable players.  Not this current Celtics team

pretty laughable if you ask me

I'm feeling it, only because I think Danny and Stevens are trying to be creative and trying to build an environment that resembles what San Antonio has done.

Certainly, we are nowhere near where they are, BUT, I think Danny and Brad are aiming at RC and Pop's formula. Crafty drafting, crafty under the radar trades and FA pickups .. . build a team of strong role players or upside guys who buy into the team concept and genuinely like each other.

We're not there yet or even close, but I think there's something there that the OP is picking up.. .

Too funny.

That's where I stopped reading.

Obviously Stevens is a Popovich style coach and even has the praise of Pop. However, no one on this current Celtics team resembles close to what the Spurs have in their franchise, no matter how "lite" you want to call them.

I love the glass half-full outlook though.

We're the greatest PF ever away from being the Spurs.   Oh so close.
