Pierce is going to Washington to play with that starting lineup. Make no mistake about it. The Washington lineup is healthier than Brooklyn's and one could make the argument that they're better as well. I'd take Nene, Beal, Wall, and Gortat over Williams, Johnson, KG, and Lopez. Washington's pro's outweigh Brooklyn's con's. Simple as that. No need to read into the coaching thing.

Exactly. Wall, Beal, Gortat, Pierce, and Nene in the East have a better chance at reaching the NBA finals than the Clippers do in the West, never mind the Nets.

I don't think you can just draw the line there. Pierce could've gone to LAC on the same deal (alledgedly). I think it was a balance between a better chance at success coupled with a team that is absolutely in disarray in BKN, coupled with comfort with the organization.

I'm not sure Pierce could have gone to LAC for the same deal.  They moved on Spencer Hawes pretty quickly with the MLE.  Perhaps they offered him it first and Pierce waited to see if he could get more elsewhere, and then they moved on Hawes after he rejected it.  I think Pierce took the most money he could get from a somewhat contending team.

Doc said they wanted Pierce but couldn't work out the numbers says they were tied up

How many minutes do you think Sam will get this year?  My instinct tells me that Doc is, "just going to throw him out there." ;)
Yeah. He'll probably say something genius to him like "Just be yourself"

Doc is overrated.

Well Tyronn Lue did take the Cleveland job and I believe Gentry landed a higher paying job with Golden State. So actually, he does need assistants.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

My favorite line from him when asked about the acquisition of an experienced player was always, "I just think he's a veteran." ::)  Umm, what?  Doc was a master motivator, great at drawing up plays out of timeouts, and was a nice guy, and, from all accounts, a player's coach, but tactically, he's got some 'splainin to do ;D  He rarely, if ever, made adjustments, and his half court offense just flat out SUCKS.  Watching the Clippers this past season proved that.  There were many times when I was glad that I didn't have to watch such play from the Celtics this year, despite the fact that we sucked, haha.
