If the CLE/GS trades don't end up materializing, could a borderline All-Star in Josh Smith interest Minnesota enough to trade Love to us?
The trade would be two different transactions:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=q44c9vkBos In: Love
Bos Out: Olynyk, Green, Bogans, 2016 or 2018 BK pick, 2015 Bos Pick
Minnesota In: Smith, Olynyk, 2016 or 2018 BK pick
Minnesota Out: Love
Det In: Green, Bogans, 2015 Bos Pick
Det Out: Smith
2nd trade (only because of trade rules):
Martin for Thornton straight up.
Minnesota gets a borderline All-Star in Smith that would complement Pek nicely, and they replace Martin's bad contract with an expiring contract. Also, they get a guy they coveted last draft in Olynyk, along with a potential lottery pick in two years.
Detroit gets out of Smith's contract, which was bad for them due to their personnel. They pick up a natural 3 that will complement Monroe and Drummond nicely, and they get cap savings with Bogans and an extra pick for their trouble.
Boston gets their star while only losing two picks, Green, Olynyk, and Bogans. They also get a good vet to come off the bench and score in bunches for them.
I think this trade is realistic enough, because Smith can shine and play All-Star level ball in the right system. Also, they have him locked up for years, so there's no chance of another Love drama deal in the near future. We may need to add another pick, but it's a pretty good haul for everyone involved. Who says no?
