Good post, TP!  For me my dad.  Loved watching the Celtics with him when I was a little kid.  My dad passed away when I was in high school.  I still think of him every time I watch a game, thanks Celtics!!

Mike Gorman.

The main reason I am a Celtics fan.

Good call.  Not being from the Boston area (and usually being to cheap to by League Pass), I rarely get a chance to hear Mike Gorman call a game.  But when I do, it is always a treat.

'Cause my dad liked them. Its the bonding thing that everyone's talked about.

The Gorman post is spot on though -- one of my favorite game callers.

I love how diehard the fanbase is and how most are NBA junkies

TP. This blog is a testament to how diehard the fans are!

I have so many reasons. Mike Gorman, watching the games with family, etc. The general passion for the team would be number one.

Both of these:

My dad grew up in the Russell era, and always shared his passion for Celtic basketball with me. Watching us win the 2008 title was one of the best bonding moments I ever had with my father, and I will cherish that forever.

Re Gorman: in a 2007 game in the garden, my father got us 5th row seats behind the scorer's table. After the game ended, he led me over to Mike Gorman, and we had a conversation with him for a good 5 minutes. One of the nicest, most genuine guys I've ever met.

My dad passed away when I was in high school as well, so I know exactly what you mean. To this day, I feel like he's with me as I watch every game.

Gorman is the best basketball announcer in the game.
The rest are idiots made for the mute button.

Completely agree - Love Mike Gorman!  I think he is the best announcer in all of sports!  We have been lucky to have him....

It's so funny that all these announcers don't understand that people like a quiet announcer, not a yelling idiot.

There's a guy on the Memphis Grizzlies announcer bench team who is the calmest, most relaxed sounding dude on the planet. He's great. He also seems to be less prevalent than he was a couple years ago.

The reason has evolved over the years. In the mid nineties, when I started watching the NBA, I really latched on to the Bulls and also the Charlotte Hornets.

But when the Celtics drafted Paul Pierce, that was it. As a young kid I finally had a reason to root for the hometown team. I am a die hard sports fan, but grew up in a household that rarely watched sports strangely enough. I remember watching the 96 Super Bowl by myself actually. My parents werent even interested in the local team in the Super Bowl!!!

This is why I had to find my own way when it came to which team to root for. I ended up landing on all of the local teams, but if it werent for Paul Pierce, I might be rooting for the Chicago Bulls, or the Pelicans!

After 99, I really started to dive into the history of the team and discovered a million different reasons to be a fan. But experiening Pierce's career as a Celtic from start to finish was pretty freakin cool.
