  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
I may date back a bit further than some folks on here so these names may not ring a bell but a few of my WTH's were

1) Walter Berry St Johns

2) Ronnie Perry - HC

3) Scoonie Penn - BC

4) Chris Herren - Everywhere

These are obviously Northeast-centric but I was a hug Big East fan back in the day and they used to televise a double header every Monday night and replay it after Midnight (i was working the graveyard shift).

I thought ever BC guy was gonna be a superstah back then.

all-time disappointments
1. Keith Lee (you know you've been around a while if you remember him -- great college player that did nothing in the pros)
2. Walter Berry
3. Eric Williams (thought he'd be so much better)
4. Pearl Washington
5. Michael Smith (what a bust for the C's).
6. Rodney Mccray - never lived up to the hype

I'd add JJJ, Gabe Pruitt and JR Giddens to the list but I didn't know much about them before the draft so had no expectations beforehand.

If only that would happen.  As for Jimmer, I never understood the hype - he's Eddie House with a handle, but worse defensively.  Sounds fun ::)

I was absolutely convinced Gerald Green would be a poor mans T-Mac and make multiple all star games.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Anthony Randolph

Also Michael Beasley. Xavier Henry.

He's not a bust.  Did you see him play last year, which was really his rookie year in many ways?  He can play.  I don't know how good he can be, but I wish that Ainge had signed him for last year.  It would have been a lot of fun watching him develop.  Man can he get to the free throw line.

Id say he is a bust, because his team didn't exercise his 4th yr option, but I 100% agree he played pretty well last year, although he was pretty inconsistent. Part of that was due to a uneven role but he was hungry, something he always seemed to lack in memphis and new orleans.

There has to be different definitions of busts.  I think of busts as guys that expert scouts or yourself thought would be very good, but lacked the talent or work ethic.  I don't consider Oden or Bowie to be busts.  They had physical health problems.  Royce White had psychological problems.
For example, Eddy Curry is a bust.

I thought luke Babbit would be a hell of a player.  I watched too many highlight videos and was wrong as were the Trailblazers.  He was a bust.

Based on that assessment, I would have to agree that he's been a bust, especially because he's not an all star, although he might surprise us, who knows?  I think it's also important to remember, however, that that Memphis team was loaded when he first got there, and in New Orleans, they had so many other similar players to him that it probably hindered his growth.  Should he have beaten out those guys?  Yeah, but at least he got a chance to play last year :)  He also might have been injured in his stops prior to LA, which didn't exactly help his cause.

Kenny Walker played for Kentucky in the 80's. He was constantly doubled and triple teamed, nobody could stop him. Thought he would be great in the NBA. He never made it.

Don't want to get off thread, but some have written Smart will be a "bust". They are dead wrong on that IMHO.
