Huh, could be.  Or maybe they want another wing to go small with Harden/Ariza/Parsons/Jones?/Howard or something similar.

Either way, I doubt they're done.  They've whiffed on the big guys so they'll try and get 2 decent pieces at least.

With a 4-year, $32M agreement for free agent Trevor Ariza, Houston could still match offer sheet for Chandler Parsons, source tells Yahoo.

wow, not as overpaid as I thought Ariza would be this offseason. He provides some much needed wing defense for Houston, but I still don't take them seriously as contenders.

Ariza's deal fully guaranteed,& it appears the Rockets may - MAY - still match on Chandler Parsons & play him as a stretch four at times.

Why did Ariza sign with Houston again after the way they they treated him last time?

They clearly didn't rate him then. Signed him, talked him up and then threw him away. Why trust people who have clearly shown you they are not trustworthy? From the sounds of it, Ariza could have gotten that money elsewhere. So why put your future in the hands of someone who treated you this way in the past?

Beverley
Harden
Ariza
Parsons
Howard

It's like the 2009 Orlando Magic on steroids. But good enough to make it out of the Western Conference? Not so sure.

Ariza's $32M deal has declining scale: $8.6M, $8.2M, $7.8M, $7.4M, source tells Yahoo. Flexibility for summer '16. @sam_amick reported deal.

Washington would love to replace Ariza with free agent Luol Deng, but only has the mid-level exception to offer him. He's seeking $10M-plus.

As we've seen with Asik and Howard, Morey has no issues with having two above-average starters at the same position.   They might try to use Ariza in a sixth man SG/SF role.

Dang, it's disappointing to see where he ended up. Ariza is dependent on the PG, and Houston simply doesn't offer that type of system. You think they would learn by now after their first big contract to Ariza flopped. I don't see him having the offensive production he had in Washington playing alongside John Wall, who was pretty much god's gift for Ariza last year.

No kidding. You think being used as trade bait last time he wouldn't touch Houston.

So if Houston doesn't match Dallas' offer, they'll have lost two players now, Lin and Parsons, who were third and fourth in USG% and second and third in AST% (min. 1000 minutes played). Ariza is a better shooter than Parsons, although his 3P% last year was probably a slight outlier due to a variety of reasons, and a better defender. But Houston will miss Parsons' penetration and playmaking.
