Indiana has budget constraints, and Lance won't fit into their current budget with the money he's being offered.  They need to shed a little payroll:

Pacers get:
Keith Bogans
Draft rights to Colton Iverson

Celtics get:
Ian Mahinmi
Lottery protected 1st round pick, presumably 2015, but I'm okay with 2017, since we have so many picks the next two drafts.

Mahinmi has use as a center, and isn't signed to a terribly unreasonable contract.  That said, he got very little run in the postseason (12.7 minutes per game) despite Hibbert's struggles.  This clears up a substantial amount of money for Indy to offer to Lance.  Iverson is nothing special, and might not even make the Celtics roster, but this allows Indy to take a flyer on him.

How about Bogans/Wallace/Bass/Draftpick for Copeland and Hibbert?

Because I don't think they're that down on Hibbert.  Down, but not dump him for Wallace down.

Yeah, I was thinking about this too a few days ago.

I think Mahinmi is one of the better backup centers in the league and I thought that Mahinmi could make a decent stopgap option at center next season for the Celtics. However, in the end, I was put off by the 2nd year remaining on Mahinmi's contract and decided I preferred to keep the cap space over having Mahinmi as temporary starting center. Still feel the same way.

2015 cap space more valuable than Mahinmi as stopgap starting center.

Tell me you're not serious?  Any trade involving Wallace isn't happening.

I agree about Mahinmi. My only issue with him is he has Bass level catching ability and I always found it so annoying.

I could see the Hornets. They still have money to spend.

Hornets and Mavs signed SFs, Hayward got matched so Hornets just signed Marvin Williams.

If Parsons gets matched, I fully expect Dallas to throw money at Lance.  Cuban won't let the offseason end without doing anything.
