I'm kinda new to the forum, but is this why he has -7 tommy points?

I've been here awhile and didn't think it was possible. Love it
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Are you kidding me? How do you call a draft pick a bust 3 SL games in. And while he has shot poorly, it's something he'll improve as he gains more experience. He is scoring 15-20 points even with his shooting woes, imagine if he begins shooting more consistently.

Smart still had 19 points.

He defends, gets to the line, is unselfish...

Rome wasn't built in a day. Let's not go all Rick pitino. (Billups)

Good point, when I think of young players I always think of Billups and Joe Johnson, trading them and not giving them the time to mature was a HUGE mistake.

and that's playing with scrubs + Kelly + Pressey

can you imagine him with a better cast with Rondo and Bradley?
Yup while he didnt shoot well himself he made nice passes and it didnt help with Pressey and Babb putting up a brick house

What do people think of Dennis Johnson as a comparison for Marcus Smart?

DJ wasn't always the best outside shooter, but he was clutch and had the guts to take the big shot even if he was something like 2 for 10 in the game.  At least with the Celtics DJ wasn't real explosive, but played a savvy game, and was a bull big defensive PG.  I see some similarities there.  For all the Wade comparisons before, I'm just not seeing that type of explosiveness or first step.

I do like his mentality of taking over games though...I can see it in his game...he WANTS to win...he may have bricked a few shots, but he attacks, attacks, attacks, and attacks. This guys finds ways to score...Give him some time, he will be a force

Honestly after 4 games his stats aren't terrible...

13.5 points (14th), 4 rebounds, 4.5 assists (6th), 2.3 steals (tied for 2nd)... Awful 28% shooting, but he's been productive.  Not sure how much of his productivity is due to having the ball and being the focus of our team...

should be a capable backup next year and he'll probably learn to take shots he's more comfortable with.

Hopefully people who've watch the Celtics game against Orlando will realize what kind of player Smart will be. Smart is a good choice compare to Gordon base on actual game. Smart is getting better as he adjusted to the game. We'll wait and see his progress before concluding that he is a bust!

I was expecting this thread the second Smart missed his first jump shot in the summer league.  What took you so long?

In other news, James Young is a bust at #17.  Dude has a glass neck.  Injury prone.  Waste of a draft pick.

Tim Duncan had a horrible summer league...they should have traded him bc summer league is all that matters.

Are we just going to focus on his shooting and neglect every other facet of his game?

EDIT:  Also, this is the first time I can ever recall a guy being labeled a bust due to Summer League action.  Not even an NBA regular season, or preseason game for that matter.  But a summer league game.  Wow.

Hello, my name is Nickagneta, and I'd like to talk to you today about Kelly Olynyk...
Wait...wait.... I didnt say Olynyk was a bust after seeing him in the summer league. I said it the day he was drafted. I wouldn't judge a player based solely off summer league play. ;D

What did this do for his 20% shooting? A broken clock is correct twice a day.
