This has been a pretty humbling summer league for Smart.  It reminds me a ton of when Marcus Banks was drafted... all the confidence in the world was lost pretty quickly when it became clear he was outmatched.

Hopefully Smart doesn't let this ruin his confidence.  With a lot of time and hard work, he can still be an effective player in the league.

Payton continues to look like a really nice player. I want to see he and Smart go head to head. See if Smart can contain Payton's penetration.

I don't think a few bad shooting games are going to ruin Smart's confidence. He's still hustling and having an impact on D which he obviously prides himself on.

I can see why Elfrid Payton was compared to Rondo, the guy is all over the floor!
A great statline with 7 rebounds already.

Unlike Banks though, Smart knows how to play without just relying on scoring confidence. Smart is a nice passer, excellent defender on man and in the lanes, good rebounder. He will always get you something. He looks comfortable on the floor.

Banks never looked comfortable.

To be honest, I don't really like some of the "other" unknown guys, besides Moser, that Ainge has compiled this team with.

It's pretty crazy to compare him to Marcus Banks.  His defense alone puts him in another league.

Banks didn't contribute anything in the NBA.

Smart seems to have zero explosiveness in his first step. Hopefully he'll be more reliable shooting the ball, because he's surely not going to do damage driving.

Smart is getting the better of Payton when they are matched up.

Smart is playing pretty well in the second half of this game.

I didn't see an explosive first step in his college games either. He finished really well around the basket though. He'll get garbage points and offensive rebounds, fast breaks, cuts, post ups of smaller players.

You are right in that, if he wants to score with any consistency a better outside shot is critical.

I just have a box score, but I'm still seeing way too many bricked threes.

Smart still managed 19 points even though he didn't shoot the ball all to well. Pressey on the other hand.. ugh.. 1/15.

I'm sure the coaches are telling him to let the three pointers fly.  If he were to take 9 threes in a regular season game, you would have to send him to the bench.  His shooting has a ways to go.

The rest of his game looked very strong this game (2nd half at least as a missed the first half).  He was shutting guys down defensively, getting loose balls, and generally creating havoc.
