Rondo, Afflao, Gay, Love, Asik are all between 25 and 28 years old.

Kevin Martin and Carmelo are certainly good on offense, but can they play defense?  Will they?  They are both over 30.  Carmelo is barely over 30 by a few days, but he has 10 years in the league.

Rudy Gay is one of the most athletic players ever at the draft combine.  If Kevin Love (4th leading scorer in the league) is on the team - Do you need Carmelo's offense so bad?  Or Kevin Martin?  What happens in 2-3 years when they are passed their prime?

Would the starting 5 at the top of the post be able to be a team for 5-7 years?  Will Afflalo and Gay play enough defense to make it work?  Surely they would be good enough 2nd and 3rd options on offense.

Am I off base?  Is Carmelo that good on offense that you go after him no matter what?

We've got Jeff Green at 1/2 the price right now.

No Gay isn't a good 3 point shooter like Melo. (Melo's mediocre percentages are off his pull up 3s his off the catch numbers are very good)

Plus Gay has only a small period of very good to elite play, Melo has multiple years.

I would rather have Green than Gay.

I would prefer Bradley, Green, and the picks you would have to give up over Gay and Afflalo.

Gay is pretty much the same type of player that Melo is. Just a worse version.

The fit is the same ... just with less talent.

We don't need another allstar scorer. We need defense.

Nooooo. don't want any part of Rudy Gay. Jeff Green is a better fit for boston IMHO. SG (if Bradley walks) choice on my part would be Afflalo.
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

I'd want Melo the most. Him and Love would make us a legit contender. But I'd rather have Green on the team rather than Rudy Gay. Gay just strikes me as a less efficient, albeit more aggressive, version of Green.

No. Lol thats like a slightly better Jeff Green with no defense.

But his game looks pretty, like Melo, despite being more inconsistent and inefficient. Also doesn't play defense, like Melo.

FauxMelo Anthony. So pretty. Wow.

The WS/48 differential between Melo and Gay is huge. Melo does basically everything better except dunk

Gay doesn't bring anything to the table that Carmelo doesn't.  He's got all of the same faults that Carmelo does, and he doesn't have the ceiling or consistency that Carmelo does.
