  • What a Pub Should Be
PG- Rajon Rondo $4
SG- Reggie Lewis $3
SF- John Havlicek $4
PF- Satch Sanders $2
C- Bill Walton $2

Just having fun and seeing what I could do without either Bird or Russell.  Still a pretty solid squad, IMO.

I love how all the $0 players are Thanksdad Gaston-era Celtics. He'd have pocketed the $15 himself.

@Jambr Hah. Day over Banks is an issue to deal with for another day. Go ahead, take Day.

I know Day wasn't amazing, but he seems to be a cut above the rest. In his first five seasons in the league, he averaged: 13.8, 12.7, 16, 11.7, and 14.5. I realize his fg% leaves something to be desired, but he was a fairly effective scorer. Marcus Banks averaged 6 ppg and 2 apg in his illustrious career - forgive me for choosing Day over him. It's not like all of the $0 options are awesome.

Assuming modern rules I'm going

Vitaly Potapenko - $0
Kevin Garnett - $5
Larry Bird - $6
Reggie Lewis - $3
Jo Jo White - $1

for a total salary of $15

Tiny at PG  $2  Good passing and shooter
Reggie at SG $3  Great shooter and good defender
PP at SF $3  Best Value on your chart, scoring, strong D.
McHale at $4  Post offense and Shot blocking
Chief at $3  Rebounding, Scoring and Rim protection

This team has inside out scoring.   Good D with shot blocking backups.   Only weak area is rebouding as Kevin was not the strongest rebounder but PP is solid and RL for their positions.   Chief is very well rounded.   I think this team could run or go half court on you as well.

fun game to play...

the best spent $15 in my life would bring a team of:

bird $6
KG $5
walton 2$
white $1
ainge $1

the best front line in history i believe. passing would be unsurpassed by any other front line, great defense (KG and walton), scoring from all over the court, rebounds are totally owned by the celtics.

either ainge or white could bring up the ball, no need for a "pure" pg here with all five players able to pass.

ainge and bird to shoot threes..white, harder to judge but he was a good jump shooter. KG also had a good outside shot.

lots of energy and intensity as well. and ainge can bite and punch the other teams' stars.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Any team has to start with Bill Russell, the greatest winner in basketball history.  I've heard people say (not on this forum) that he would not be a center in today's NBA because he was only 6'9", but if he played today he'd be listed at 6'11".  He was a little taller than 6'9" barefoot.  They were going to list him taller but he said he was already enough of a freak.  He also had very long arms.  He was the size of Dwight Howard, but probably with longer arms and more athleticism and much better leaping ability.  He was a track star in college who dominated the hurdles and was considered a world class high jumper.  Looking back, it's so incredible that he and Wilt played at the same time.  There hasn't been anyone like them since.

Russell won two NCAA Championships and 11 NBA titles in 13 years.  He has to be on all these rosters we're creating on this thread.

dont forget 2 state high school championships and an Olympic gold medal.

Jo Jo 1
Havlicek 4
Pierce 3
Macauley 1
Russel 6

dont try and tell me i cant play Havlicek or Pierce at SG.
Jo Jo should be more then Tiny unless you are getting a non Celtic year Tiny, in which case i would want 72-73 Tiny. i could also argue DJ over Rondo. Lewis and Sharmen over Allen if its Celtics years Allen only. Macauley over Satch, both over Walker.

I have an amusing story my dad shared with me about Russell and Heinsohn when Russell was a player coach.  My Dad went to a practice when he was in college which was open back then.  Russell was putting the team through calisthenics and whenever Russell turned his back, Tommy would stop doing his push-ups or sit-ups and lie down.  Then when Bill turned around, Tommy would start up again as though he never stopped and Bill's contagious laughter would fill the gym.
No point to the story, just thought this forum would appreciate it.
