Hypothetical:

- The Lakers end up with the seventh overall pick in this upcoming draft.
- Kevin Garnett retires and Paul Pierce leaves the Nets through free agency.

The Nets offer DeRon Williams and Brook Lopez for the Lakers seventh overall pick and Steve Nash.

- Lakers now have Kobe, D. Will, Lopez and $5-7 million leftover to resign Pau Gasol. Kobe Bryant is pumped up.
- The Nets rid themselves of about $35 million worth of obligations. Obtain a high first round pick in a loaded draft with an eye towards the summer of 2015 when they'll have about $30 million worth of cap space.

What do you guys think?

The Hawks have the rights to swap picks again with the Nets next year, so I don't think they're interested in this.

The Nets don't control their own first until 2019.

That last sentence makes me very proud of Danny Ainge.

The Nets don't say no though, if they can shed every long term contract sans Joe Johnson long term. It's a pretty quick turnaround if they can parlay Joe Johnson off their books.

1) Is Billy King still running the team?
2) The Nets are in a semi-new market.  I don't think they want to tank in year 2.

No, but with the new lux tax repeater penalties, and the state of their roster, and the wealth of the 2015 free agent class, it all makes too much sense .

I don't know how much of the statement was stressed, but the Nets owner clearly said there was a 5 year window for Billy King in terms of contention. He has one year left, I'm pretty sure Mikhail would be more understanding if they had a quick jumpstart. I don't want if he wants to do a lengthy re-build, but who knows? Good deal for the Nets, and Kobe gets to be competitive.

This makes the Lakers a contending team. Bad for Boston.

But I don't really see Lakers getting past OKC, SAS, LAC, POR, or even HOU these days.

I don't see the Nets ever doing a "rebuild" as we know it as long as Prokhorov is the owner.  I don't see him giving up any assets to cut salary or intentionally taking a step back in order to move forward in the future.

If I were the Lakers I would say "no" to that. That trade would just make them the Nets of the West. A 45-48 win team that in the West isn't even certain of making the playoffs and certainly wouldn't get out of the first round if they did get there. No real hope of upgrading the team in the near future either due to lack of picks, cap space and trade assets. They'd be stuck as a middling team.

I think they are better off playing the free agent game. Better opportunities and LAL is a major draw for FAs.

They aren't subject to the repeater tax next season, for what it's worth.  They wouldn't be until 2015-2016, if they are over next year and that year.

This Nets team would be better than what Lakers would be... not only are they in the East, no one knows what Kobe can do and JJ is better than Kobe if he can't come back 100%.

So, please Fakers, do this trade hahaha!

Make DWill and Lopez want to kill themselves because they have to deal with Kobe who just doesn't know he aint the man anymore.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I'm loving how many extremes and different opinions there are on this particular trade. That tells me it is not only dramatic, but how there could be strong interest from both teams to make this deal.
