I don't know how such a deal would even be possible under the CBA. Boston doesn't plan on having major cap space anytime soon, so there'd have to be a ton of filler in a Rondo for DWill + Lopez scenario.

Just saw the tweet posted in the "Deron Williams wants out of Brooklyn" thread

Sources have told Hoopscritic.com that this falling out between Williams and Nets management, specifically Nets GM Billy King, has resulted in a mutual decision between the two parties to split. Williams, and his wife, essentially want out of Brooklyn and King is more than happy to accommodate them.

The Celtics have a ton of filler.  Bass, Bogans, and Anthony (after Anthony exercises his option and the one-year trade restriction on Bogans pass) is probably enough filler, or close to enough to toss in a couple of unguaranteed guys.

Bad trade, though.

At first, I thought the smart decision was to pass, but...

A Rondo for Lopez-Williams is a steal for the C's... Brook Lopez alone is more valuable than Rondo. Lopez is only challenged by DeMarcus Cousins as the best offensive Center in the league and he's younger than Rondo. If you don't think Lopez is a long term option (whether because of his injury history or his game), he's one of the most tradeable assets in the league and would get a better return than a Rondo can.

Williams might be an excellent buy-low option for teams that are not set at PG. His stock dropped far this year, but players that have shown the ability Deron has don't just lose that without age, injury, and/or lifestyle being significant factors.

It's been reported that he will undergo an MRI on his ankles (note: both ankles...) and might need ankle surgery during the off season. He's missed a considerable amount of time throughout his time with the Nets (Steph Curry had similar issues, but he's an example of an elite player overcoming chronic ankle injury). He also has appeared to be slightly overweight (people usually chalk overweight players to lack of work ethic, but injuries play a part in being able to get in shape).

If the Nets are intent on trading Williams, they better field a good return for him even though his stock is at its lowest because, if he gets healthy, he has a good chance at returning to being a top 30 player. Mavericks, Rockets, Timberwolves, and Knicks might be salivating at the thought.

I wouldn't do it straight up for Williams or Williams and Johnson though... Rondo has more value than both (though that might change if Williams gets healthy) and he's more reliable.

If both DWill and Lopez are healthy, they're players you easily build a team around. I understand the concern over their health, but Rondo is also coming off a pretty serious injury as well.

Not to mention, there was very similar concern over Ray Allen's ankles after the Celts dealt for him in 2007 and that worked out pretty well.

Anyway, I just hope we have a competitive team next season. NBA draft lottery coming up Tuesday!

Ya exactly i would do the trade mainly for Lopez idec about DWill... Rondo for Lopez and any random peice would be a good trade cuz we can always draft a pg (exum/smart or ennis/napier)

If D-Will is on the market, we can expect a D-Will for Asik-Lin rumor to hit pretty quickly.

That would be a pretty big shift in things.

What do Pierce and KG do then?

Does Asik start while KG rests and gets older before next year's playoffs and Lopez gets healthy and tuned up?

And does D-Will (and his 3pt shooting) constitute more value to Houston and DH than Rondo (without much of a 3pt range) and the contract we'd have to dump on them?

lin+asik will not make the nets a contender, lin is a good 2nd unit PG and you will hope hasik don't get injured because he will carry the load of rebounding, what the nets missing is rim protector and 2nd unit PG
