Phoenix has three picks in this year's draft. Would you trade down if we got the fifth pick so that we could have three picks? That would be #5, for #s 14 and 18. Per draft express that would essentially mean trading Exum for Stauskas, Kyle Anderson and Clint Capella (or anyone below).

Absolutely not!  Not a smart idea.  We have a thousand draft picks over the next few years.  We should generally be looking to package and move up when possible.  Never down.

Keep the 5 and pick the best player left.
Once you get down to 14th-18th you are going to get into borderline starters/backups. 

So no, you don't trade quality for quantity in the NBA draft.
That strategy works well in the NFL but not in the NBA.
