They could also go the "Loscy" route with Ray and KG.

They might have to do that with everyone moving forward. Its actually not a bad idea considering the lack of available numbers.  A nick name for all.."KG, the Truth and Benedict".

I don't think Ray makes it.  At least not until long after Pierce and KG are up in the rafters.

 ;D

I think it's a great idea (go figure, I think my own idea is great) for players like KG who were essential, but transplants -- especially in his case, since he's going to get his number retired by the Timberwolves, and I feel like "The Big Ticket" would look nice on a jersey.

Pierce should have 34 retired properly.

I have no problem with a "Shuttlesworth" Jersey going up.

Of course,  the kicker is that Loscy requested that his number not be retired, and I don't know how many players would agree to that in lieu of a proper jersey retirement.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Pierce is an obvious C's legend.

KG, i would eventually retire as well because he made C's basketball relevant again after a long drought. He also transformed the current C's culture to what it is today. Even though he's not a Celtic anymore, his influence and presence still lingers.

Ray Allen... maybe. But nah, probably not.

I'm maybe a minority around here but i think ray should absolutely get retired. i think he got different treatment than KG from danny and management before he left.........

He sure did get different treatment than KG. They listened to KG...... especially when KG and the Captain stood up for their "buddy" Ray, when Judas was about to be traded for O.J. Mayo, and they nixed the trade. Ask KG about his "buddy's" loyalty.

Benedict's number should not be hung in the rafters. Perhaps an effigy of him should be hung up there as they do to all traitors.

Pierce & KG are no brainers to me.

There are numbers already hanging up there that did much less than KG.  KG changed the culture of this team in '07-08 & beyond.  What he did to the Celtics extended well beyond the numbers.  You could see the impact on the floor just thru intensity and the more defensive mindedness the team adapted. Especially when you contrasted with the C's teams preceeding that.  Off the court?  He helped transform thr fanbase and helped the city reestablish it's connection with the Celtics.

What happens with Ray? I'm pretty indifferent about it. If the team decides to retire his number, I'm fine with that. It was the New Big 3 after all and part of the identity at that particular era.  He hit some clutch shots and was fun to watch.  At the same time, his exit doesn't leave him on the same level as Pierce or KG when it comes to that era. If Wyc & co decide not to retire his number, I'm not gonna raise a fuss, either.

Agree with Pierce and KG.  Pierce deserves it even without #17.  KG gets there because he changed the culture.

Disagree with Ray.  I see the case for Ray being weaker than that of Tiny, who isnt retired.  Tiny played for five years here, was an all-star for three, and helped win #15.  Ray played for five years, was an all-star for three, and helped win #17.  Tiny, however, didn't turn his back on the opportunity to continue playing in the organization.

Agree with this completely. Some issues with retiring KG. He was in Minnesota much longer. He is a charismatic start, but he got his ring. And I think Minny will retire him.

Why not Ray Allen-

2010 NBA Finals- Game 3, Game 4, Game 5, Game 6, and Game 7.
2012 Season- Got injured, started complaining about minutes and coming off the bench.
2012 Summer- Took his talents to South Beach
2013 NBA Finals- Game 6, 4th quarter. And also winning a ring with them.

IMO...Pierce, KG, and Tom Thibs led Celtics to #17.

KG gave this dump of a franchise a 3.5 window of contention.

It was a dump for 20 years prior to his arrival... and may be a dump for the 20 years after his departure unless Lord Ainge lands us another savior.  For these reasons, KG earned his way up into the rafters.

He brought back old-school Celtic pride... if for only a fleeting moment.  It was worth it.

Pierce obviously earned it.   I'd understand if they decide not to retire Ray, but Ray was crucial to our title.

2012. 90% free throw shooter Ray Allen, missed a bunch of crucial free throws against the Heat.
He was horrible in that series. He was horrible that whole year.
He was pouting when Avery Bradley got the start over him.

Then next year he joins the Heat.

I just want all of you to remember that.

I personally don't want his number retired. But that's just my opinion.
