Good article in the globe: http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/04/15/celtics/9CzGCG98Y2Br97gHgQxGMP/story.html

. . .Still, Green is averaging a team-leading and career-high 16.8 points per game and he hasn’t missed one game, a goal he quietly worked toward in his second season removed from open-heart surgery.

Looking back, Green learned a lot, but one lesson stood out.

“That I can’t do it alone,” he said.

Quote
“People forgot who we had on our team last year and how I was able to get so many easy looks, so many easy dunks,” Green said. “This year, we don’t have those guys, so by being the focal point of most defenses, it was harder for me to get open lanes and open shots. So I don’t think people realize that — what goes into each game and how I’ve got to try to focus on how I can get my shot.”

Quote
Facing a defense that focused on him was “definitely exhausting,” Green added. “You’ve got to work five times harder just to get a shot or to get the look you want. Sometimes I settle for jump shots because it’s hard to get to the paint.”

Defenses threw plenty at him.

“A lot of teams doubled me when I’m in the post, when a smaller guard is on me, off screens,” he said. “They trapped a lot, just to get the ball out of my hands. Or the rotations when I got the ball were quick and they overloaded the sides.”

Quote
People don’t realize that this is the first time of me being ‘that guy,’ ” Green said. “I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know how to handle it.”

Rondo defended Green.

“It’s his first time being pretty much the go-to guy on the team, but what you can’t take for granted is Jeff pretty much played in every game and not too many guys can say that throughout their careers,” Rondo said. “From what he’s come back from, it’s been great, and he’s been giving us pretty much consistency in his play every night.”

Green failed as the go to guy. You think lebron or durant would be making excuses ?

Green could be a nice 2nd or 3nd scoring option though

We're not even going to put him in the same discussion of Lebron or Durant lol...but I bet they've probably made comments earlier in their careers.

Yeah greens not a go to guy. And that's fine bc he's not paid like one. Hopefully we can put him next to one, both in celtics uniforms, soon.

very disheartening statements from Green.  All the more reason to move on from him.

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Guess Lebron did make excuses.

I do agree with Green though.

He can't do it alone.

Hes still a great defensive SF that works hard on defending other players, which takes just the same amount of effort.

I think he can average 18-20 PPG if he wasn't forced to be the go to guy. Putting someone like Love, or whoever we can get that can force or enable more traps to give space for Rondo/Green to work with.

At least Green admits that he needs help, unlike LeBron, who would probably blame others and make excuses.

I dont get why Green is getting flac for this statement.

He is being honest and knows his role and knows his ability as a player. In his first tenure as "the go to guy" he had a statistically generous year despite his shooting dropping due to taking more shots, i mean look at his surrounding cast, who else was going to take shots?

Dude worked five times as hard and was still able to average 17 a game. Why is it so bad if he admits he isn't a number one option and that he needs a star beside him? I may be one of the few but I like this quote from him and see nothing wrong with it.

If you look at it, Lebron proved that he couldn't "do it alone", by teaming up with Wade and Bosh. His actions did the speaking for him. No one can do it alone and win a championship.

Also agree with this.

Would you guys consider Green a great scorer if he tried flopping more?

If he was attempting 3.4 more on top of his 4.3 which would equal 7.7 FTA per game, bumping his scoring to at least 18 or 19, I would say he could be our 2nd option.

He needs to be more aggressive, but I wouldn't mind him trying to drive, pump fake, and then initiate contact like Harden/Durant/Wade does.
