Perhaps the idea is to swap Amendola for Jackson as an upgrade in talent?

I don't think WR was what was keeping them from advancing last year.  It was an underperforming defense at the end as well as injury decimination.    I think WR issue has always been overblown.

In my mind what held them back last year was three things:

1. Injuries to key defensive players.
2. Lack of a real pass rush due in part to #1 and in part to a general lack of size / physical dominance on the defensive line.
3. Lack of truly dangerous weapons on offense.

Gronkowski and Hernandez in tandem made the offense unstoppable.  Now, one of them is perpetually injured / ailing and the other is in jail.  Back then, a really great WR wasn't needed for the team to be the best offensive squad in the NFL because of those TEs.  Now there isn't a reliable pass-catching TE on the roster, so WR becomes a bigger need.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Desean Jackson rumor is fascinating. Such a big risk though given that you never know how a WR will mesh with a QB.

DJax makes no sense unless Amendola is gone. And his contract is too ridiculous for us to take on. This makes me think this is an old rumor...Something we might of done if we missed out on Revis to appease the fans.

After the posturing is done, Vince is back in for 3 years and a total of $22.5 million. Makes sense.

Can't ask for a much better offseason that the Patriots have been having.  Retaining their own key free agents (or, in this case, renegotiation) and bringing in new guys like Revis & Browner.

Biggest question mark for '14, IMO, is going to be team health.  If they stay healthy and avoid the season ending injury bug they had in '13, they are a pretty potent team on paper.

Now they need depth at DE safety and a good young TE.

Also, they haven't resigned Blount yet, though perhaps the remaining 3 RBs can hold the fort if necessary.

DeSean Jackson was cut by the Eagles. If he somehow signs with the Pats, that puts them on Denver's level.

I can see him joining Vick with the Jets, though.

I have to wonder if the Pats stay away due to these "gang affiliation" rumors swirling around Jackson.  Especially after what they just went through with Hernandez.  I'm not sure Kraft would sign off on it.

Jets make sense.  They're a full blown circus and seem to relish it.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Pats pursued Jackson, they are thin at the serial killer position.

Pats have apparently resigned C Ryan Wendell.
Slowly, surely, attending to all pieces of business.
Blount next?

Blount just signed with the steelers, I think we can grab a back our two from the third round on that can help us.

Doh. He was putting pen to paper as I typed that post. Oh well. I would have liked to have him back.
