Wow.
And he will likely be franchise tagged the following year.
Time to turn attention elsewhere: DE and safety.

TP!

Beat me to it!

I think this is really huge.  The problems with the Pat's defense have really been overstated.

Wilfork, Mayo, and Kelly are all coming back, so the middle is going to be bolstered.

While Dennard and Ryan are not elite CB, they're darn good 2nd and 3rd CB, and McCourty has looked great at FS.  All they really need is to get the other safety position resolved, and Harmon started to show signs late last year.

LB depth is weak; I get that.  But people forget that the Pats spend 2/3 of the time in sub defenses with only 1 or 2 LB on the field.  So the trio of Mayo, Collins, and Hightower isn't as thin as it may seem.

Finally, Jones and Ninkovich have looked great on the DE spots.  The only real weakness is to bring in depth.

So overall, I'm quite pleased with how things are looking.

I'd put the Pat's needs on defense as

SS
DE (to mix in with Jones and Nink who play way too much)
LB (for depth)

Another random thought: Arrington signed a pretty hefty deal at 5-6 million a year last year and is now the 4th string corner in my book.  Should the Pats cut him, bring in someone cheaper, and use that money elsewhere?

This is pretty big news. I wonder if they knew [for sure] that he was coming when they lost Talib. With the franchise tag in use (if needed), we should have 2-3 solid years of Revis in his prime. Just a couple of hours ago, people were worried that we were wasting the last few years of Brady's career - I guess all of that just changed with this signing.

Pats cap hit is worse if they cut Arrington (5 million +) than if they keep him on the roster (3.6 million)

[dang]...though I suppose 3.6 million isn't too terrible.  It's just I'd take Revis, Dennard, and Ryan over him any day.  Still, it is a passing league and he's at least passable...most of the time.

Looks like that LB depth may be solved as Wesley Woodyard's visit with Pats went 'great'. If he can be had at an affordable price, he would be a great addition to our defense. The fact that he would be coming from Denver is just an added bonus.

So much for losing Aqib Talib...

That's a great pick up! Pats not standing pat. It'll be Broncos-Patriots again in the AFC.

Saw no link to confirmation of this.

Neumeyer seems about to confirm (teaser).

Now the Pats just need to sign/draft a TE/LB/DE/WR/S.

They still have a lot of holes.

Makes me wonder if Wilfork will be cut...Either that or he needs to restructure somehow.

Yes, cut him. He's terrible.

Can Revis be franchised after this season?

Albert Breer tweeted that there doesn't appear to be any language in his contract to restrict the Pats from franchising him in '15.

Of course, the risk of holdout exists.
