The Knicks have no assets, if they panic at the thought of losing Melo would you make this deal.

Knicks don't have first rounders to trade.  They already owe their 20`4 and 2016 picks elsewhere, which means they also can't trade 2015 and 2017.

I don't think they have any first rounders to give up until 2018. I would at least want a pick this year or next if giving up Rondo. So no, not enough return.

The earliest first rounder that NY can trade would be in 2018. So you are talking about the 2018, 2020 and 2022 drafts.

Ainge wouldn't make this trade, as he wouldn't be able to benefit from it. I doubt ainge continues running the Celtics that long. That would be a 20 year run.

I would hope the knicks aren't dumb enough to cripple their franchise a decade into the future.  :o

Would I? Yes.
Would the Knicks? No.

No for all the reasons Chris and Mr. October outline. The Knicks don't have picks to trade soon enough. The 2018 first round pick would be a nice asset to stash away, but it alone along with Hardaway wouldn't make me part with Rondo.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Those two aren't franchise changers. They also aren't anything value wise worth what Rondo is to the Celtics. 3 first rounders would be great, but as everyone stated Knicks cannot trade away their picks, plus Dolan cannot be that stupid enough to commit that far into the future.

You can only trade draft picks 5 years forward.

It's actually 7 drafts forward.  So 2020 is the furthest out they could trade.

This is wayyyy outside the realm of possibility.

But the answer is yes, of course. That's like asking me if I would give up my salary this year for, like, a full pension.

Once again not nearly enough value for Rondo.  You don't do that trade unless you want to be irrelevant for the next 5 to 7 years.  Your ALl Star HAS TO get you more than that in a trade...  Why would people consider this?  The Knicks with Chandler, Melo and Rondo would be pretty good especially in a weak East so those draft picks are extremely low...

Who's to say they'll still be good in 2018, 2020? They'll be well into their 30's by then.

Anyways, I wouldn't to this trade. We can get more for Rondo.

It's like asking if you'd give up your salary for the next 4-5 years for a pension of indeterminate size. Might be a full pension, might not cover your cell phone bill.
