If there's one good thing about this, it's that Red is not here to see it.
And it would NOT have happened if Red HAD been here.
This sucks.
I think you underestimate the era in which we're playing currently, the competition, the effects of the current CBA, how long of a career Pierce had as a Celtic compared to past Celtics, and how productive currently he's as a player in particular with how high of a salary he has.
So, I can easily see Red making this sort of move in this era as much as it would've pained him to make it.
I'll say this, if Ainge hadn't put the faith he put on our team 2 off-seasons ago, maybe Pierce doesn't get traded. But in order to give KG and Pierce another go as a Celtic, Ainge sacrificed our much needed future flexibility. And in order to regain it, they had to be moved in part because they underperformed, the team underperformed, and was severely unhealthy.
I think it's safe to say that we can move on from the Ainge is evil incarnate and Red is infallible rhetoric.
