I am in shock that Seattle would offer anyone 240 million dollars (Well Gary Hanson offered 570 million to the Maloofs for their lame franchise and was blocked by David Stern).

So Ellsbury to the Y-----s and Cano to Seattle. Do we get a comp pick for this? Y-----s just guarenteed themselves years of mediocrity while the Red Sox play with their house money. I am liking this  ;D

We get a pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds for Ellsbury.  If we sign one of the free agents who received a qualifying offer, we lose our #1, and if we sign a second free agent, we lose a compensation pick.

The Yankees lose their their top two picks (for signing Ellsbury and McCann).  I *think* how it works is that the Yankees lose their 1st rounder and their Cano compensation pick, and keep their second rounder.  I could be wrong on this, though.  (The rules changed recently.)

So I think Ben Cherington is looking to build more from the farm system and sign up the under the radar FA like Shane Victorino and Stephan Drew.

Jay Z is using Seattle to drive up the Yankee's offer for Cano.

Cano started with 10/300
Yankees countered with 8/160
Cano came back with 10/252 (the ARod deal)
Yankees held firm knowing that no one will beat 8/160

Now Jay Z is looking to create smoke rumors to budge the Yankees offer...

No worries, that was the theory everyone was going with after the reports were the negotiations went rough last night. Then suddenly an hour ago bam he got 10 years.

Lol, this is great stuff.

Looks like Jay-Z came through for Cano after all.

Plus, to me, this is a big "screw you" to the Yankees.

They gain a center fielder that they really didn't even need and lose their star 2nd baseman. Haha.

I wonder if the Mariners just pulled a 'Damon' and said this offer expires when you walk out of here - take it or leave it.
