The Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets are reportedly discussing the possibility of a trade involving disgruntled center Omer Asik.

Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News reports that the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets are discussing the possibility of a trade involving disgruntled center Omer Asik.

The Trail Blazers are off to one of their best starts in years, but they're not kidding themselves. They know they've taken advantage of a pillow-soft schedule and have surprised themselves with their shooting (46% entering Friday). So they're quietly looking to improve, talking to the Rockets about trading for Omer Asik. They can send back Robin Lopez in a deal, but don't have the "stretch four'' the Rockets are looking for as they search for a home for their disgruntled backup center.
Bill Simmons of Grantland.com floated a similar trade proposal earlier this week.

Last season, Asik was Houston's full-time starting center but he has been supplanted by Dwight Howard. Asik opened the season by starting alongside Howard but coach Kevin McHale moved him to the bench last week, a shift that reportedly caused him to request a trade.

Bass doesn't shoot threes, so he's not the stretch 4 Houston's specifically looking for.

I think Asik would do well in Portland.

Robin Lopez, bless his heart, has been playing fantastic for the Blazers, though. They'd probably have to part with more than just him to get a deal done, which would leave them quite thin, I imagine.

I think Portland might be better served strengthening its bench rather than upgrading its starting lineup.

Their bench looks pretty solid this year.

Of course, any bench would look good compared to their reserves last year.

I can see why Portland wants Asik, I can't see why Houston would trade him for Robin Lopez though. They can get more for Asik and Lopez doesn't fill a need.

I bet Lopez will go to Houston with Dorrell Wright to make salaries work.

asik could go to Portland - but it wont be for lopez

that deal starts w/ batum

don't underestimate market for asik

and McHale has help in front office - not going to giveaway legit starting center for a marginal (soft) 5

I'm usually not one to propose wacky multi-team deals, but....

To Houston - Ersan Ilyasova, Meyers Leonard
To Portland - Omer Asik, Courtney Lee
To Milwaukee - Brandon Bass, Robin Lopez, Thomas Robinson
To Boston - Larry Sanders, Isaiah Canaan

The Celtics give up a lottery-protected first to someone else.

How about Asik to POR, Jeff Green to HOU, and Robinson, McCollum and my boy Greg Smith to the Cs?

More like that deal ends with Batum: I'd have to guess that Portland hangs up the phone if Houston brings him up.

I quite like LC's four team trade on the face of it.

I think the appropriate thing for Portland to do, even if they have no intention to trade Batum, is to throw a counter-offer out there to see how Houston reacts.  Propose something like Batum for Asik, Montiejunas, Parsons, and a first, and work towards finding a third team that might want Lopez.

maybe get Phoenix involved.  They have a lot of stretch 4 type players (Frye and the Marcus brothers) as well as a number of other big men.  Maybe something like Asik to Portland, Lopez and Morris to Houston, and McCollum and Robinson to Phoenix.

Not so fast Houston should now think.

Memphis just lost their C.

Could they get a bidding war going?
