I was looking at the Knicks cap situation this morning. The only contract they have on their books in 2015-16 is JR Smith for $6+ million.

They'll probably re-sign Melo as well and add another $20+ million to the team ... but I imagine their main selling point to Carmelo right now will be their ability to attract a top FA signing (or two) in that 2015 FA class. That that is how they will build a title contender around him. They might even try to convince him to leave a little money on the table to give them more wiggle room (whether that works or not).

So I think NYC will refuse on contracts for non-star talent that go past the next two seasons. Maybe even look to offload JR Smith's contract closer to that time too. Like Miami did with D-Wade in 2010. It looks to be their best option.

Well, by this summer they both become expiring contracts, and good trade assets. So while I am sure Danny would do it for that reason alone, I don't think that NYC will do it. But then again, they are inept, so who knows? Keeps us under the luxury tax too which is a bonus.

Not bad, but I'd want Hardaway thrown in there. I know they are high on him, but they are far more desperate than we are.

Looks good for the Celts, but like others mentioned, I doubt NY goes for it.

As mentioned, they're sitting pretty for oodles of cap space in 2015.

They probably don't jeopardize that for the 3rd year remaining in Wallace and Lee's deal.

Not sure why the Knicks would want to give up on Bargnani for what are probably lesser players, many of which have longer contracts.

Also not sure why we would want Bargnani.

I do think something may develop with the Knicks so who knows?
