I mentioned this in the game thread the other night, but I imagine a lot of people missed it.

I was listening to the Jazz broadcast and they mentioned having watched Rondo prior to the game.  They said one calf muscle was drastically larger than the other.  They said it would take a while for him to build it up and guessed he was "at least" a couple months away.

Just figured I'd pass that along since there hasn't been a ton of officially status updates on Rondo.  My guess is we don't see him until after All-star break, if ever.

Probably just wishful thinking on your part. Not only would the local reporters have seen the same pre-game warm-ups, they've probably also seen him participate in a decent amount of non-contact drills at practices. Bad as I think they are, I doubt every one of them missed what the Jazz announcers caught.

Inclined to agree. Not a whole lot to be gleaned from a visual interpretation from play-by-play announcers.

No one here is thinking that the HGH Rondo is taking made his non-hurt leg bigger with all the exercise/rehab he's been doing and so there is really nothing to worry about as his hurt leg is just probably the size its supposed to be?

I mean, his arms and chest seemed to swell up over the off season as well.

Put 2 and 2 together........

Maybe. Easier explanation is that he continued to work out within the limitations of his injury, which accounts for the disparity.

I'm not too familiar with HGH, but I don't think it can avoid muscles in the way you're describing.

I am not saying it avoided any muscles but that it made the atrophied leg grow back to its normal size but made the rest of the muscles he has been working out grow larger and hence why in some pictures his arms and chest look huge and now, maybe his healthy calf as well.

Also, take away the HGH theory and you are right, his regular working out could have made his healthy leg larger and his hurt leg is just now regular size.

Would love to see a recent photo of Rondo in shorts to see what these Utah announcers are talking about.

This is what happens when you have a leg surgery.

Elton Brand and others talked to Kobe about how much their calves shrunk after they had surgery to repair their Achilles.

This is what Rondo is now rehabbing, not how strong or stable his knee is. But the atrophy of his surrounding muscles.

Ppl, I'm just not that impressed with these professional athletes.

For one, I work a desk job but still, I don't let my body waste away.

Not too long ago, I had a problem with my right elbow. That problem is now gone.

So fine, during rehabilitation, it meant that my right tricep/bicep combo with be weak for a bit. Did I sit around and do squat? No, I used a forearm device and exercised my forearm & wrist muscles/tendons.

For my shoulder, I restricted my elbow (so that it wouldn't move) and did deltoid exercises, tying a pulley cable to my arm with a strap.

All and all, my elbow healed, while all the supporting muscles in its vicinity were toned up.

Away announcers are probably the worst news source ever.

I've been watching the feeds from some lately.  I know Tommy is a big homer but otherwise Gorman is so much better than these other guys.  With a lot of them it doesn't seem like they know the other team at all.

Oh well. I've had that happen to me too when I had ankle surgery, and had an infection to the wound. Ended up lying in bed for more than 6 weeks with my foot up above me. Got around the house by skipping on one leg.

When the cast came off, I was shocked. Honestly shocked. Apart from all the dead skin underneath my foot, which was gross, the calf muscle was GONE. Really weird, and looked like someone else's limb.

So I wouldn't be surprised if it'd happen to him as well.

That said, I came to this topic thinking:

"A topic for Rondo's calves? Sheesh! Why don't we give each calf their own topic while we're at it?!"
Seriously though I wonder how long it takes to build up a calf muscle.  I imagine it's his leg in general and not just the calf.  The announcers just commented on one calf being dramatically larger than the other.
I'd say "dramatizing differences" is a KPI for announcers.
Exactly.

I know the Jazz suck, but these guys must really have nothing to talk about.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

When Gorman goes snarky he is far and away my favorite announcer in all of basketball.
