Game Notes
The Celtics open their season on the road as they take on their divisional foe, the Toronto Raptors.  These two teams have already faced each other twice in the preseason.  The Celtics lost the first game of the preseason to the Reptors 97-89 and they lost their second meeting by just 2 points, 99-97.

The Raptors return their starting lineup from the end of last season as well as their coach.  The Celtics, on the other hand have a majority of new players and a new coaching staff along with a new system to get used to.  So, it's no surprise that the Raptors had the advantage in the preseason.  Now, the games are for real and the Celtics know a little more what to expect from the Raptors.

As far as the starting lineups, Brad Stevens wasn't tipping his hand and as late as the last practice, he couldn't say who would be starting.  The lineup listed above is in the Game Notes.  I would rather start Bradley, Wallace, Green, Bass and Faverani.  With Valanciunas starting at center for the Raptors, the Celtics need to counter with size and strength inside, and that is what Faverani brings.

Players to Watch

Celtics

Gerald Wallace was the best player in the preseason for the Celtics.  He held his teammates accountable and brought energy to the lineups.  Look for him to continue to do both in the regular season.

Vitor Faverani earned more playing time with his performance in the preseason.  His defense inside and his ability to get to the hoop will be key in this game.

Honorable Mention

Kelly Olynyk
Kelly is playing before his home crowd, having grown up in Toronto.

Raptors

DeMar DeRozan is capable of putting up points in a hurry and the Celtics need to find a way to contain him.

Jonas Valanciunas is poised to have a break out season. If the Celtics go small, he could have a big night.

Keys to the Game
Effort- The Celtics must win by being the team that plays harder.  They can't afford to take a night off.

Rebound - The Celtics must crash the boards to prevent the Raptors from getting extra chances and to give themselves extra possessions.

Go Inside
- The Celtics can't depend on their jumpers alone.  They have to take the ball to the hoop and win the war in the paint.

Defense - The Raptors are a good shooting team and so the Celtics must play team defense to keep them from having a high scoring game.

Teamwork - Even though the Celtics are mostly new to each other, they have to develop teamwork and play together, covering for each other on defense and making the extra pass on offense.

Finally the season beings, and we have our game thread. Thanks FLC. This the first of many threads by you I am sure.

I looked at the starting five for the celtics....gosh they look bad.

But in any case it is a new season, goooooo celtics!!

Go Celtics!

But I'd rather have the lineups to be:

PG: Pressey/Bradley/Crawfish
SG: Bradley/Lee/Green/Brooks
SF: Wallace/Green/KO
PF: KO/Green/Wallace
C: Faverani/Humphries/Bass

Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

The days of waking up to the box score of last night's game are back. My bold prediction is double doubles for Olynyk, Wallace and Faverani as Stevens pulls a suprisingly tight and efficient 8 man rotation out of nowhere. We get beat anyway.

You have Brando Bass at Center??

Gerald Wallace at PF??

I will watch the 1st quarter and a half and then turn on something else at 5:00 pm local time. Too busy to chat and too busy to comment on the action in here.

Given the matchups I see, Toronto clearly has the upper hand here and it could be ugly for Celtics fans who choose to watch this instead of the World Series. In a Boston Sports Bar with 50 TVs - 47 of them will show the Red Sox and the other 3 will have the Bruins at Pittsburgh. That does not leave much room for the poor lone Celtic fan who must watch the proceedings from an Ipad in a remote corner of the bar.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

I think Faverani has to and will start against Jonas Valanciunas.

I don't like that Bass vs Amir Johnson matchup. I worry about Amir's strong rebounding. I think Kris Humphries would be a better option.

The Celtics starting 5 is .... still a secret. Stevens said he'll tell us pregame tonight, but won't reveal before shootaround.

Luckily Johnson loves fouling like Glen Davis loves carbs.

BOLD PREDICTIONS

El Hombre Indestructible finishes with 10 points, going 1-1 from 3, and 6 boards in 28 minutes.

Gerald Wallace leads the Celtics in assists with 4.

Courtney Lee goes 1-3 from downtown and finishes with 3 steals.

Avery Bradley and Rudy Gay only score on long 2's and dunks/rim finishes, combining to shoot 0-7 from downtown.

TP FL for the first game of the year that means something.

I think Gerald Wallace is going to have the best night of anyone on the team.

I liked our chances before the Sully suspension....now not so much

DA must have thought we were jelling too much going into our first game. Not wanting to take a chance on getting off to a bad start, with a win, he suspended Sully!!! ;)
