Quote
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Thursday that the Grizzlies are pursuing Boston Celtics center Fab Melo in a potential swap for the nonguaranteed contract of Donte Green. From the Commercial Appeal:

While a majority of NBA teams have gone into hibernation before the start of training camp in October, the Memphis Grizzlies continue to make moves.

The Griz are working to acquire center Fab Melo from the Boston Celtics for the rights to Donte Greene, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

Memphis would bolster its frontcourt depth, adding a third center to the roster behind starter Marc Gasol and backup Kosta Koufos.

Fab Melo for an unguaranteed contract and cash. Sounds about right.

I wish Fab the best of luck. Seemed like a good kid, who maybe had some unrealistic expectations thrust upon him from the moment he was drafted.

I don't know why anybody would be happy that we just dumped a project center we spent a 1st round pick on just a year ago for absolutely nothing (Greene will get cut).

That #22 pick from last year just went from "probably a waste" to "definitely 100% a waste."

Question: Is the Boston beat/media out of the loop this summer with the trades and etc or are other teams just being more loose lipped?

We didn't get cash.  We gave the Grizz cash.  We paid them to take Melo.

My guess is that after press leaks killed the combined KG/Doc deal we're being more cautious.

I'm happy with Sully.  Melo was a wasted pick the second it was made.  Of course, nobody picked behind him is lighting the world on fire.  I still think Perry Jones would have made more sense.

I'm assuming this gets us the rest of the way under the tax.

I wonder who they are going to sign with the last roster spot.

CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Yep, you're right. Which still sounds about right.

It gets the Celts below the luxury tax and avoids the repeater penalties, so that makes this trade worth it.  Danny could have gambled that we could make a similar trade at the deadline, but he must be thinking that there's a chance that the asking price for taking on Melo's contract would have gone up later in the season.

We couldn't get Washington to take on Melo for free last year.  Luckily, we found a sucker this season.

Boston has been very tight about this stuff for years.  There are really very few leaks out of Boston's front office lately.

(of course, this is assuming, what I believe, that the Clippers rumors came from LA)
