Noel will not be a bust.  He is a once in a generation defensive player.  He's smart enough to be very productive on the offensive end as well.  He can pass, and I believe he will develop an offensive game as well.  His weight does not concern me at all.  He is only a teenager!

Rondo however, is a transcendental player.  He is in the same level as Chris Paul and Derrick Rose.  His value has taken a hit due to his injury of course, but if one were to believe he will come back fully healthy, then this is not enough.  Taking that deal is essentially selling Rondo low.  One only does that if one believes that he will no longer be the same player.  Then absolutely you do this deal.

Personally I wouldn't trade Rondo for that package.  Although I believe Noel will be an above average player in the NBA and that future first, if used properly, will become another starter in the league.

Yes. It would have finished off our trip to the 2014 high lottery *and* given another big boost of cap flexibility.

I believe Noel will be DPOY candidate at worst and will figure out the offense. As a Freshman he had *elite* blocks, steals AND rebounds. 4.4 blocks, 9.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals.

It would have hurt, but I think you do that deal.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
No, I don't think Nerlen's is going to be "THAT" good.

Never.
Rondo's value isn't even comparable to any player from this year's draft class.

LoL ... thats what I think too every time I see him.

I try and imagine him trying to stop Shaq, Moses Malone, Ewing , or even Hibbert ....

LBJ would run him down like a run away train.  Even Wade might break him  .

Even Sully or Big Baby would knock him 20 feet into the stands with a big body
slam.

Question is can he still be athletic and play at 250 lbs , and knock heads with Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard.

He has a long way to go to get an NBA strength type body

Probably, if only because I think Rondo's best years will be behind him when this team is good enough to contend again.

Really?  He is a teenager.  I can think of at least one skinny center, limited offensively, getting ring after ring going against a physical monster.

No.  He's had 2 injuries in his young playing career and has no offensive game at all.  Plus I don't think he will ever grow physically into more than a PF.  Too much risk to give up an All Pro PG..

No way.  Noel is nowhere near Rondo's level and for all we know he may never be.

Rondo only knock right now is that he's recovering from an ACL...so is Noel.

Nope, but I would have traded pretty much anyone else on the roster for the opportunity to pair Rondo with Noel.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

On draft day I posted pretty much this exact same thread.  I would have done it on draft day and still would do it now.  Noel for Rondo this year clearly puts the team into full bore rebuilding and tank mode, and then you pick up another pick next year as well.  Absolutely and without question make that trade.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I have all these thoughts in my head but it's useless to point out the brutally clear truth. It's apparently not so clear for a lot of folks.  ???

Rondo. He's 4th I think in all time NBA triple doubles in the playoffs. Folks say "See he only plays when it's Prime Time" and I'm thinking...he's got another gear that 90% of NBA players don't even have. Why doesn't he shift more? I dunno? But he can if he want's. Get him a friend. Perk's gone Rev Dooling is gone, get Rondo a binky and a Dr maybe some meds but just trading the guy for  (insert unknown quantity here) seems ridiculous.

no, Noel isn't good enough and any future pick while Rondo's under contract won't be good enough especially if it's protected.

Noel doesn't have enough offensive skill to be worth Rondo.

Maybe if we dumped Wallace with Rondo and got Noel with 2 unprotected firsts with Greivez, I'd think about it but those firsts won't be as valuable as we would hope.
