Well, Terrence Williams becomes $200,000 guaranteed if not cut before June 30th. The other two Celtics players become fully guaranteed on August 1. If Joseph comes over, the trade can't be official until July 10th and then Joesph becomes partially guaranteed on August 1st as well.

So if something is going down trade wise with those contracts, we should know fairly soon because it would mean not cutting Williams before June 30th and then would have to happen between July 10th and August 1st for whatever team is getting these contracts to obtain them and cut them.

Can Houston wait that long for everything to happen officially on the Celtics end to trade Robinson and then tell Howard he has to wait until mid July to get a firm offer because this trade has to go down first? yeah, I guess maybe that is possible.

Its also possible that with taking on Wallace's contract and Kkris Humphries being added Sullinger and Bass and Olynyk and Melo and Iverson that the Celtics won't be needing Robinson as a big or any of these expiring deals because they will need to cut salary themselves.

Howard may have to wait to make a deal official, but they can agree to terms well before they can do the paperwork.

I'd imagine Houston would like to hold on to him if they can't bring in Dwight Howard or Josh Smith.  Morey is probably looking for a team that will give him a contingency, such as agreeing to a deal that will be consummate if and only if Houston needs the extra cap space.

Good point, and that's definitely the smart thing to do. Personally though, Houston would have to be victimized by something along the likes of a nuclear strike or a natural disaster for them to not land at least Smith. Houston has an absolutely attractive core in Harden, Parsons, and Asik. Lin's not great, but he's good, and brings a lot of buzz to the team. Texas itself isn't the worst when it comes to extracurricular fun, and the state is one of the best when it comes to income taxes. I definitely see Howard having Houston as option #1.
Smith, Rondo, and Howard on the Rockets.

Send Rondo ($12) + waived contracts to Houston for Asik ($5.25), Lin ($5.25) and Robinson ($3.5). The Rockets can dump most other players and get down low enough to have about $30 million to acquire Smith and Howard. Both would have to take less than max, but they might do it in a no-state tax state in order to play with two other "super friends" and compete for multiple championships. It would be a gutsy play by Houston that could bite them in the rear if they couldn't get Smith and Howard to buy in.

The C's would be a good center in Asik, reasonable PG in Lin, and a prospect in Robinson.

Asik, Humphries, Melo
Bass, Sully, Olynyk, Robinson
Green, Wallace
Bradley, Lee, Brooks, Crawford
Lin, ???

Certainly not a "tanking" team.
