Chicago trades Fab Melo and #49
Chicago receives Kyle O'Quinn (net salary decrease)

Golden State trades Festus Ezeli ($1,066,920 salary)
Golden State receives Fab Melo and #49 ($1,311,240 salary, falls within 125% + $100K)

Orlando trades Kyle O'Quinn ($788,872 salary)
Orlando receives Festus Ezeli ($1,066,920 salary, falls within 125% + $100K)

Smart trade by Chicago, and a good one by Orlando.

I'm curious about Golden State's rationale?  It seems like they traded one guy who won't contribute this year (but who has showed he can play) for another guy who won't contribute (but who has showed he probably can't play and makes more money).

Don't like that trade for GS at all.  Ezeli is a far better prospect than Melo.

Just because Ezeli may not play this year shouldn't be reason to dump him for a far lesser, but healthy prospect.  Couldn't his contributions have just been replaced with a guy on a vet min contract?

In Yoki's defense, if Boston, in real life, blows it up and keeps Fab Melo, Melo probably gets a lot of run next year as the C's tank, which might show Melo can contribute to a team.

Besides, I think Yoki was just itching to pull a trade off. This is probably better than moving one of his main pieces. ;D

Arguments for keeping and cutting O'Quinn? We cut $500k either way in the trade, but we can cut $800k more by releasing Kyle.

I would personally keep him, he has size that no one outside of Noah on your team possesses

He's actually only costing you 325k, if you account for the cap hold.

New Orleans: I was about halfway through this somewhat critical review of your team, but I stopped myself about halfway through. I think in a few cases you've taken deals that in retrospect could've netted you more with a little patience. As an example, including Robin Lopez in your deal with me probably wasn't a great idea, considering the value he had later (I ended up moving him in a package for the 4th overall, but if I had decided to move him on his own I had a few very good offers).

But that aside, and the Olynyk pick Im not a big fan of, you have done two very important things; 1) you've managed to preserve your future picks, and acquire more, 2) you've got a couple high risk/reward guys who if they pan out, could turn out to be great picks.

You've positioned yourself nicely for the stacked draft next season, and you've got some assets (namely Al Harrington) who you can use later on to acquire better prospects/assets.

It's a painful year coming up for you. The hornets will not be very good. But, they will also have another year to grow, and will likely get a blue-chipper by the end of it.
