  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Am I the only one who wouldn't mind picking him up for the the MLE if he were amnestied? and no that doesn't mean I would want to run it back.

Maybe if Pierce and Garnett retired and I wanted to pursue a tanking strategy.

Perkins is not a source for PER, never has in his career.

He should have been able to body up the Grizz's big men, I guess losing that weight didn't help him in the long run.

The numbers are awful, the PER isn't coming out of nowhere.

Oh no doubt the numbers are awful, but the dude just ain't going to be dropping huge PER numbers ever.

What he should be doing, he did not. That is a more glaring problem.

He wouldn't make it through amnesty waivers, meaning we wouldn't have a shot at him.

Worthless player. One of the worst contracts in the NBA.

Perk had more fouls than points, assists and blocks combined in the Playoffs.

That's 9 million dollars a year.

One of the worst contracts in the NBA.

These are two completely different concepts.

Perk was top-20 in overall defense this year.  That's not worthless.

Yeah, but it does put him in the tier of players along the lines of Reggie Evans or Matt Barnes (well the Matt Barnes of every year other than this one).

Limited role player who has one elite nba skill and is doing everything else poorly.

Makes me sad.

Yeah, Perk has declined.  People forget how good of a player he was in 2010.  10 points, 8 boards, 2 blocks, 60% shooting.  Only ten players in the history of the league* have had a stat line where they put up stats at least as good as Perk in those four categories.

Even in decline, though, I think there's a lot of value for a guy who anchors your defense and who allows Ibaka more flexibility to defend on the perimeter.  That's not $9 million in value, but it's got definite value.

(* Or, at least since blocks were counted as a stat beginning in the early 70s.)

Like people have stated Perk is definitely in the decline. But if he were to be amnestied I could only hope he would be able to return to the Celtics. I would greatly prefer him starting at center over any of the small ball lineups we try.

Perk still provides a needed skill for the Thunder, saying he is useless is a tad big extreme. He is an intimidating force that is planted in the middle, he changes shots and he changes the way player attack the basket. He is an instigator with a winners mentality and a great chemistry locker room guy.

For 9 mil a year yes, even I agree thats very steep. But he is the type of guy anyone would want to have on their team and in their locker room.

Well, people forget how good LaFrenz was before the injuries, too -- which doesn't make his stint with us any more meaningful.

Bottom line is, between his physical decline and not playing next to a Garnett in (the tail end of) his prime, it may be time to admit that Perkins has regressed from a difference-maker to a serviceable player (at best) or rotation-capable role-player (at worst).

Also, I'm really curious what is that team that will supposedly claim him off waivers (even at a reduced rate) -- they have to be under the cap, and I don't expect that a non-contender would possibly see value in Perkins. He's not a building block at this stage of his career.

I love Perk and wish him well, but man...he looked like hot garbage for that whole Memphis series.  Seemed like there was no play so basic that he couldn't blow it, often disastrously.

Hope he does better in the future, wherever he may be.

Ravaged by injuries, I think it is a miracle he is even playing.   His coming back each time, albeit a little less, is a testament to his warrior spirit.
