Simple and easy. Swap out two guys who each ended the year on a downward trend with their respective teams and each player addresses a need for the other team. Denver desperately needs an athletic defender and shooter (insert Courtney Lee). Boston obviously needs size (insert Kosta Koufos)

Because they were 26th in the league in 3 point shooting this year and it will likely only get worse with Gallo missing all or most of next season. Courtney Lee is a career 39% 3 point shooter who had a down year. Even with his down year of 34%, he would still rank 3rd on the Nuggets roster. He is also a very good athlete who would fit with their up and down pace and take the spot of the likely departing Brewer.

I like Lee a lot but both him and Koufos are simply solid role players who can start on occasion. Koufos is 24 years old reasonably skilled center and after investing over 40mill in McGee, Koufos does not fit into their future plans. It's more about a good fit for each team rather then me trying to get rid of Lee

I think it makes sense for the Nuggets to go with three useful centers, given the pace they play at and the high altitude in Denver.  They have sufficient doubt about McGee that it would be reasonable for them to keep around at least one other center who is or has the potential to be a solid starter.  It would be stupid of Denver to irrevocably hitch their wagon to the idea of McGee playing 30mpg.

I understand your point about the altitude but disagree with you that they need 3 centers. McGee and Moskov along with a possible free agent 3rd stringer is sufficient if they feel the need to have that depth there.

They somewhat painted themselves in the corner with the McGee contract. It would be foolish to continue to pay him 11mill to sit on the bench. (On a side note, I just realized McGee and Rondo make virtually the same money. Yikes)

Denver has pretty much signaled that they plan on matching a MLE-sized offer sheet for restricted free agent Mozgov.  And are probably willing to go higher.

Denver likes to have a roster filled with guys whose contracts are in the $3-7m range.  They have been a poorly-run, poorly-coached team that has been the very definition of the treadmill of mediocrity.  This is exactly the sort of team that should be blown up and rebuilt from scratch.

It doesn't matter if that is a good idea or not.  They are going to keep Koufos and probably match what ever offer Mozgov gets because that's what they do.

They just had the best regular season win wise in their history didn't they?  Sure they lost in the first round, but its not like they played all that bad, and without Gallinari too.  No need to rebuild when they're an up and coming team.  Average age of 24.7 on the roster.

I'd think they would rather move McGee of the three centers they have as he has by far the worst contract.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I'm sure they would but who in the world wants that contract?
