UPDATED through ROUND 10

Coach - Billy Cunningham - Brief 8 year coaching career in which he compiled a regular season winning percentage of 69.8% and a playoff winning percentage of 62.9% which includes the 82-83 championship with the Dr. J led Philadelphia 76ers that finished an astonishing 12-1 in the playoffs after a 65-17 season.

Projected 9 man Rotation with deeper bench to supplement or in certain match-ups

PG - Calvin Murphy 24, Kevin Porter 16, Reggie Theus 8
SG - Mark Aguirre 24, Reggie Theus 24
SF - Julius Erving 38, Mark Aguirre 10
PF - Spencer Haywood 35, Herb Williams 13
C - Bob Lanier 35, Mychal Thompson 13

Deeper Bench - Sam Lacey

Team strategy was to take highly efficient players that were very well rounded.  I have very few poor foul shooters (and no downright awful ones) and most of the team is right about 50% from the field.  My guards can rebound and my bigs can pass.  I have multiple players that played multiple positions adding to the flexibility of the team.  I have 3 HOF players (Erving, Lanier, Murphy) and Haywood should make 4 and my coach was also a HOF player (Cunningham).

Stats from the seasons chosen below.

Dr. J - 29.3 p, 11.0 r, 5.0 a, 2.5 s, 1.9 b, 50.7% from the field, 33.0% from three, and 80.1% from the line and even better in the playoffs scoring nearly 35 and grabbing 12.6 rebounds a game and upping the FG% to 53.3% during one of his ABA MVP seasons as well as a title.

Lanier - 22.5 p, 13.3 r, 4.2 a, 3.0 b, and 1.2 s, over 50% from the field and nearly 80% from the line.  In the playoffs, he upped his scoring to 26.3 and rebounds to 15.3 and was still just as efficient.

Haywood - 29.3 p, 12.9 r, and 2.5 a, 47.6% from the field and 83.9% from the line

Murphy - 21 p, 7.3 a, 2.5 r, 1.8 s, 49.3% from the field and 90.7% from the line

Aguirre - 25.7 p, 5.3 r, 3.2 a, 1.1 s, 49.5% from the field, 35.3% from three, and 77% from the line in just 33.3 m (what I like to call instant offense)

Thompson - 20.8 p, 11.7 r, 4.0 a, 1.4 b, .9 s, 52.3% from the field and 62.8% from the line

Theus - 18.3 p, 9.7 a, 3.7 r, 1.4 s, 48% from the field and 82.7% from the line

Porter - 15.4 p, 13.4 a, 2.5 r, 1.9 s, 48.1% from the field and 72.2% from the line

Williams - 19.9 p, 9.1 r, 2.4 b, 2.2 a on 49.2% from the field and 73% from the line

Lacey - 11.5 p, 14.2 r, 5.3 a, 1.7 s, 2.1 b on 42.7% from the field and 75.4% from the line

In a league full of Giants, Denver has put together a team of Jacks.

Wow the 76ers team is amazing it was just well drafted and always got great value with their picks:
Getting Haywood 3rd then Murphy 4th and the Aguirre at 5th was just amazing

Updated rosters with coaches are on the front page.

Gotta say, there are a couple teams that really did well this week and one or possibly two that kind of set their good starts back a bit with a not so great second week.

I think your squad is in great shape. I really like the bench you have built there.

I think you have one of the most likable teams in the league. Your team is made of a bunch of good guys, hard working guys, tough guys, guys everyone wants on your team. Now add a Larry or Magic or Dr J. or Kareem or someone that can be that #1 guy, especially offensively. I don't know. I just think you are missing that "guy" in a draft with only so many of those type of "guy"s.

  • Yup
Best Matched Coach to his team:  Knickerbockers and Tommy Heinsohn!  Man, Tommy would have that team putting up about 200 shots a game!  Larry would average a quintriple qaudruple
Yup

Yeah I think that is the problem with the Hawks as well.  You just have to have that guy that you know when the game is on the line can make the plays needed to get your team over the hump.  I just don't see it with the Hawks.

Aside from my team, which is clearly the best (wink wink), I really like what the Kings and Bucks have done and think they would pose the most trouble for me.  I think I match up well with both, but I think those would be epic series.  Frankly one of the reasons I wanted Theus so bad is he is the only PG that has the size (who also a good player) anywhere near Magic.  Obviously against the Kings, Theus would be my starting PG to help counteract Magic's size.

I'm not sure why the Knicks through 10 rounds only have 2 big men, but I do like the starters on that team (though Dawkins is a bit lacking).  If they could swing a trade for a high caliber starting center, they could give my team some trouble.

Cowens was the leading scorer on a balanced Celtics offense.  He would not have to be here.

Johnson (1st team all NBA that year) in 78-79 averaged 25.6 points a game shooting 55%.

Gus Williams (1st team all NBA that year) in 81-82 averaged 23.4 points a game (along with 6.9 assists) and shoot over 50%

Tom Chambers (2nd team all NBA that year) in 89-90 averaged 27.2 points a game shooting 50%

Phil Smith (2nd team all NBA and 2nd team all def that year) averaged 20 points a game in 75-76

Paxson (2nd team all NBA that year) averaged 21.3 points a game in 83-84.

So I have a team with plenty of offensive pop, plenty of defense and great leadership of a guy who was the NBA MVP and lead his team to two titles.

What my team lacks in hype, it makes up for in the results they had on the floor.

Every team here can say the same thing and roll out the same stats or even better stats. You are missing star power. Teams win in the NBA without star power. But it is the exception, not the rule, and in this endeavor, I don't think it pays off with votes.

You have an excellent team and one, I would root for and cheer on because I like all those players. I just think you are missing that one guy in this draft and it will make a difference. BTW, you aren't the only team with that problem.

Side comment....the CB Draft this year won't be able to come quick enough in my mind's eye. The incessant blow it up, trade, Pierce to team x, KG to team Y threads are going to drive me bonkers this summer.
