I think we can beat the Knicks.   But I do not see us beating the Heat, if they keep doubting us, sooner or later they will be right.

They're a 7 seed.  Not sure what you'd expected to come out of the national media.  Celtics certainly haven't done much to prove otherwise right now so an expected reaction.

Really, what have the Celtics done to deserve anything better.

Yeah basically this. Why would anyone, based on this season, think otherwise.

Have they earned the right this year to be selected to beat anyone?

They have been a .500 team all year. They are 17-24 against teams that have made the playoffs. They are 14-27 on the road. For the first time since 2007 they have a negative point differential. Their vaunted team defense has taken a step backwards this year while the offense hasn't improved.

Rondo and Sullinger are out for the playoffs. KG has been on a gimpy leg for weeks. None of the guards have stepped up their game considerably and we have a bad rebounding team outside of KG. And on top of all that our bench consists of an NBDL call up center who might be one of the worst players in the league, currently, 3 Chinese league castoffs that weren't good enough to make NBA rosters before the season, a guard cast aside by the Wizards because he has an attitude and horrible shot selection, two guys recovering from heart surgery and a 35 year old combo guard that has been playing pitifully lately and unfortunately is very streaky so he could be playing poorly for a while.

I'm the hugest of huge Celtics fans and I can see that. What are national broadcasters supposed to see differently that would give them any indication the Celtics will do anything in these playoffs?

I would not say it's under estimating.

The Celtics did not show a ton this season, then add the loss of Rondo and you got the analyst saying what they see.

Unless I completely misunderstand what the word means, I'm pretty sure that we won't know whether this is "underestimating" until the series is over.

If we had Rondo and Sully - this team comes out of the east this year - truly believe that, particularly with the emergence of Jeff Green.

That being said, the Knick's series depends on three things:
1. How well Green and Pierce can guard Melo

2. How well Lee and Bradley can cover J.R. Smith.

If our defenders can shut down either of thsoe two, most likely Smith, we'll be fine.

3. How badly the league wants another Heat / Celtics Eastern Conference Finals.

You can make an argument that a "Melo" "LeBron" match up is intriguing for the league.

But nothing will come close in ratings to a Heat / Celtics ECF.

LeBron, Wade and the hated Ray Allen
Celtic's legends KG & Pierce and the emerging Celtics star Jeff Green - the Defense of Bradley.

That is a an all out "war" series. We want it, Miami wants it and most importantly, the league wants it.

1. Boston over the Knicks in 6.
2. Boston in 6 or 7 in the second round

3. Boston and Miami in the ECF's.

If Lee & Bradley play nails defense in the back court and the new trio of Pierce, KG and Green get hot, the Celtics can get to the finals.

A lot has to go right, but anything is possible.

I would be a hell of a lot more confident about our chances if we had Rondo and Sully.

As it is, the Knicks (at their best) have the shooters, the spacing, and the ball movement to scorch our defense, and we're missing 40% of our best starting lineup.

I love our team, but my enthusiasm is decidedly tempered. I'm going to enjoy all the games we have left this season, whether that's four or twelve or sixteen or twenty-eight or anywhere inbetween.

(since it's been brought up, I would love to watch the 2009 Denver Nuggets Knicks knock Miami out of the playoffs in the ECF.

Can't blame them, the C's haven't played well for a while and KG's hurt. I'm hopeful they're wrong, but it is a 2 v 7 matchup.

Yeah.  Especially for those predicting a seven game series, I actually think they're giving our team props.  I think only "true believers" are going to pick our team, minus Rondo, to beat the Knicks, and I can't really blame them.

I do predict they'll be wrong, though.

They've been doubted against since 08 so it's not even a surprise that they are again as usual.
Also with the way they ended this season being just around .500, who thought that experts and analysts would choose the C's?
The one thing I give them is that they said 6 or 7 instead of 5 or a sweep and they at least recognize how tough and gritty this team will be for the Knicks.

I would love to see the C's win and to see everyone trying to pick their faces up from the floor and come up with something to explain the Knicks losing.
