next year would be a great season to tank.  Andrew Wiggins is supposed to be the greatest prospect since LeBron James

and Jabari Parker might very well be the second best prospect since Lebron James.  There are also a number of other top tier prospects.  The 2014 draft is like the 2003 draft in that regard, where even if you don't hit #1, you could still do very well, which is why that is the year to tank in.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

If Rondo, Sully and Bosa were injured in 2013 instead of now, would we be doing Spurs 1997 part 2?

I think KG retires.  I think Boston then either buys out or trades Pierce.

If that happens, I'd like to see Boston move Rondo and go into full bore rebuilding.  I looked at a number of trades and the one I think makes the most sense is

Rondo, Green, Melo, 2014 2nd, and 2015 1st (top 5 protected) for Kemba Walker, Tyrus Thomas, Ben Gordon (if he opts in), rights to Detroit 1st, rights to Portland 1st.

Boston then goes into full bore rebuilding with 3 potential lottery picks in the 2014 draft (though the Portland pick is top 12 protected for while and Detroit's is top 8 protected next year).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

If kg retires then pierce will be traded. Otherwise I don't see either being moved.

Hypothetically though pierce to Dallas to play with dirk and mayo, assets to Atlanta, and smith to Boston if allowed.

Kg to clips for Bledsoe and Jordan.

Seems like the best options.

Have rondo smith and green with enough assets to acquire a fourth all star caliber player.

Blow-up is the wrong term.
Is out of danny's hands (which may be a good thing).

Please let KG and PP go in peace as the Celtics have proven themselves to be.

Hope we can make a decent showing this off season so they can go in peace without anyone pushing them out. Show some respect. You are watching a unique moment in Celtics (basketball) history.

I think the only way Kg and Pierce are traded, is if they decided to retire. They could wait to file their paperwork with the league and a team trying to create cap space could send us back an unwanted contract as well as a young player or a draft pick.

I don't expect Pierce to retire, but I think KG well may, so your scenario seems plausible for him.

The next question: what presumably small-market team (or maybe not small-market team) would have such a contract to offload that Danny would want to take on?

What's scary is buying a Celitcs jersey right now.

PP - candidate to be traded in the off season to a contender
KG - candidate to retire or be traded
Rondo - candidate to be traded or seriously hampered by injury

I guess you could custom make a Sully or Green one?

You could always buy a Larry Bird jersey. Don't have to worry about him getting traded unless someone has a time machine back to 1985.

There would definitely be a few teams out there that fall into that category. Off the top of my head:

Orlando would be ecstatic to get out from under Turkoglu's contract (12m), which would be an expiring deal next year and they have some pieces they can attach to make it worthwhile.

The Kings need a serious shake up and have young assets and a contract like Salmons to move.

Danny Granger is making 13m and has been all but replaced by Paul George. He could have some huge upside and they need the cap room to resign a guy like West.

Golden State has two terrible contracts in Biedrins and Jefferson, but I don't know what they'd be willing to give up to get out from under either.

I think its a really interesting situation where we could potentially net a young guy with potential or a solid pick and all we have to do is postpone our cap-room a year or two down the line. Once KG leaves we will officially be rebuilding so I have no problem with a guy like Turkoglu taking up cap space for a year if it means that a former lottery pick like Harris, Harkless or Nicholson is coming our way.

Whats a realistic return for that kind of deal though?

You can't "blow up" a team that's already less than mediocre.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Crappy teams "blow it up" and start all over on a regular basis.
