Any old timers out there should remember Hal Greer. He always shot a jump shot for his free throws---and Hal was a real good shooter on or off the FT line! 6er!

He was shooting 76 percent last year. 40 percent this year.

I think free throw shooting is all mental by the way. Most of basketball players / NBA players can shoot. Free throws should be the easiest basket in the game. It's free! No ones guarding you but your mind.

I saw all of his free throws this morning on the ESPN shows and it looked like his foot came down on or across the line on most of them and it should have been a lane violation.

The ones in the attached video seem fine.

If it's good, sure, do it. Be different, if it works.

Not everybody shoots the same way, but this kinda wastes your energy, and is harder to aim.

But for some players.... you might as well try a 360, no-look, fadeaway hook shot than a "regular" free throw *ahem. dwight howard.*

As a kid I really thought it's illegal to jump on your free throw...

It's about as illegal as using the backboard on a jump shot :\

Hahah I should jump on my free throws next time when I go ball up at the park. Horrible free throw shooter here when it comes to NBA-level free throw attempts ): I'm mostly a jump shooter when I play anyways. Need to work on my free throws more often!

I can shoot the heck out of a basketball, jump shots, free throws and even using the board and calling it. But I can't jump high, or run as fast as I used to.
I'd be killer at HORSE or a half court game. I would suck at a full court game. Hahahaha

If it works, that's completely fine.

I commend the kid for at least trying to find a way to fix his FT woes. Dwight Howard should learn from this (and Rondo too maybe).

Nick Van Exel shot jump shots from about the same area for a while.  Bob McAdoo shot jump shots from the line too.  It worked for them, but they were good shooters anyway.

Doesn't make sense to me. Free throws are supposed to be soft as humanly possible.
