Quote
Tim Ohlbrecht received a 10-day contract offer from the Boston Celtics but the German big man elected to turn it down, his agent Tyler Glass told Sportando. Ohlbrecht is averaging 13.3ppg and 7.3rpg in D-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Interesting, I can't say I've heard a D-League player turning down a chance to play in the NBA...

Guess there's another offer on the table.

Anyone heard much about Ohlbrecht?

You would think that he has to have an offer on the table from somebody else or maybe some personal issue to deal with otherwise it would be bizarre to turn down an offer from an NBA team especially one that is struggling as much for size as the Celtics.

10-day trials have been the norm lately for D-league alums. Oh well. There will always be others.

In the DL but either won the game or killed his team and was not very, consistent.   When he was good, he was very good and when bad very bad. Supposed to be a solid athlete with effort issues.

maybe ohlbrecht is trying to be like Mae West... “When I'm good, I'm very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better. ”

I am curious to see where this guy ends up.  If I was a Euro big I may wonder if Doc was really going to give me a chance.  I would still give it a shot though.

Who the hell rejects a contract with one of the most prestigious franchises in sports to stay in the D-league? It's a 10 day contract, but what does he think, teams are lined up to get him? Pretty mindblowing

my friend told me that he is signing a contract with Houston for the rest of the year. I am now scouring the internet for his source.

Deal not quite done, but Rockets close to signing center Tim Ohlbrecht off RGV, per source. Said 'working on it.'

Totally understandable. If they just want a guy for emergency depth and as a practice guy then I don't desire the whole world to see my guy riding the bench for 8 out of ten games. Not the impression I want to give. The Celts don't even play Fab. Why would they play this guy?

Pretty sure we had a thread about this a few days ago.  Clearly he wouldn't have turned down a 10 day contract if Boston was the only team offering him one.  They get paid like 27k for a 10 day contract and get paid 20-30k for a full NBDL season.  It would effectively double their entire yearly salary.  Nobody would just turn it down.  That would be nuts.

Btw since agents take a cut, I fail to see any scenario where an agent wouldn't want their d-leaguer to take a 10 day NBA contract.  Just having an NBA team on the resume (even for 10 days) will be beneficial when they are eventually negotiating their contracts to play semi-pro basketball in Angola.

10 day contract vs 3 Year Contract...I'd go with the 3 year also...

From: http://www.hoopsrumors.com/

The Rockets announced that they have signed center Tim Ohlbrecht to a multi-year deal.  Ohlbrecht's deal is for three years with team options for the final two, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle (via Twitter).  Our own Luke Adams predicted earlier today that the center would get that type of deal, similar to the structure of Greg Smith's contract.
